TWC Sportsnets picture quality is broadcast in 1080i all the time. But tonight's game I would say the picture quality was not close to HD.But I also think considering they were playing at Fresno State's save mart college basketball arena had something to do with the poor HD picture quality.

I think it is the home-team's responsibility to provide the feed to whomever has rights to them, and it could very well be that Fresno State doesn't have as high quality a setup as used in NBA/NHL arena's such as the Staples Centre.

Wouldn't be the first time Swanni is wrong on his "predictions". :D

But I would expect DirecTV to be the first to make a deal on this station.

Funniest post of the day

I thought that is how it happened. Or does the stations that own the rights lug around their own cameras and satellite trucks (or lease them from a 3d party) to all the games? How does this work?

When a team plays away, I always though that the stations that own the rights send their production team and hosts to the away city, but do they also bring their own camera's and uplink?

If so, the Fresno game should have been as good quality as any NBA game, right?

Actually I was laughing at the dry irony of comparing Fresno's production facilities to Staples'.

If I understand properly there are three possibilities, and I don't know which Fresno employs.

The stadium itself can provide multiple feeds to both home and away teams, with production facilities for both. This would apply to places like baseball and football stadiums, where there are popup cameras, cameras on long cables, etc. The director, commentators and a small staff travel with the team.

The stadium can also provide camera positions and a place for an uplink truck. I suspect this is the case in Fresno, which, all apologies to Fresno, probably doesn't have the funding for a sophisticated NBA-style system. In this case the quality of the coverage would be fairly limited.

Finally, a stadium can simply say, "You're on your own" which I presume would be the (theoretical) case if (theoretically) the Lakers played the Inglewood HS Sentinels.

They tweeted that SEVERAL times about PAC12. "any day now" "could happen as soon as today". "will happen before the weekend". That was about 6 weeks ago.

Yes. Lots of freezing. But, I think that's more of a TW Cable thing, rather than just a TWC SN problem. I see pixelation and freezing on all channels with TWC.

I can't wait until D* picks up the Lakers channel. With the greater bandwidth, the pixelation should go away.

Some so called Laker reporter on the lakersnation.com site named Jabari Davis tweeted rumors like that also 2 weeks ago

Yet we still don't have the channel on D*.I don't think D* or any other TV provider will strike a deal until around 10-29 to 11-4.

Reason being is that the Lakers season opener on 10-30 is exclusively on TNT, the following game 10-31 is on NBATV but will probably get blacked out to us fans in the LAKERS DMA zone. The game on 11-2 is on ESPN that game won't get blacked out locally.

That's the most ridiculous excuse ever for not getting the channel up as soon as they can. Hopefully we will at least know before the start of the season that it is coming.

I read some in some article that another reason D* and other TV providers are waiting till the last possible minute is because not carrying the channel now would save them something like 100K per day.Basically D* and the other TV providers don't want to pay for pre season games.

If D* was smart and they struck a deal before the other TV providers say like a week in advance they could attract new D* customers to them.

I see a lot of posts on the Laker dedicated website forums and threads that people would be willing to to ditch their current non TWC TV provider and switch to D* if they had the channel.

Does anyone know what other RSN's around the country are charging for their monthly fee? Do those RSN's show different live sports throughout the year? The reason i ask is because the Laker games are seasonal, and a quarter of them are on other stations ( ESPN, TNT, etc. ). I heard $3.95. But many people won't justify that without a full time LIVE event throughout the year. TWC will show the Lakers regular games from November-May/June (about 60 games). But what about June-Nov.?

On a per-subscriber basis, it is believed that masn is the most expensive one, at a bit over 4 bucks per subscriber.

TWCSN will also carry the La Galaxy, so there's some summer programming there. And it is known they bid hard to get the Dodgers.

Here's a better excuse: A deal signed on the eve before November 4th after weeks of tough negotiations might save them a lot of money instead of signing up right now and pay the current price.

They probably do DAILY math: How many subs did leave today and gave "Lakers" as the reason, and how much money could we potentially be saving by holding out? It is a gamble, but TWC needs DirecTV just as much as DirecTV needs TWC.

It becomes a question on how much pre-season fans are willing to miss.
