TV carriage is strictly regulated.

I'm betting that TV carriage is not regulated in any meaningful way. If it were, I'd think that Comcast Sports Philly and Root Sports NW would be on DIRECTV.

Root Sports NW is on DIRECTV... stick to Dish topics.
If you stop responding to them or put them on ignore, then eventually they'll go away.

Firmly established that the onus in the regulation is on the injured party. Directv needs to file an appeal but they have not in the CSN Philly case for whatever reason. That is the same standard as copyright law which is also considered regulated in a meaningful way.

I'm willing to bet the price Comcast is asking for - since price is not regulated - isn't anywhere CLOSE to what DirecTV is willing to pay, so why bother to go through the paces.

Hell, Comcast could be paying ITSELF $10 per subscriber. It doesn't matter to their bottom line, now does it. :D

I would be surprised if it wasn't since anything Root Sports is owned by DirecTV. :D

really years ago the Chicago teams dumped FSN and started CSN to get more control and there area covered alot of non comcast areas and CSN showed on ALL area systems even ones that where side by side with comcast. Also the teams own 80% of the network.

Exactly, that's because the teams own 80% of the channel and demanded that the channel be available to all providers.

Except that CSN Philly is on lots of cable systems all over eastern Pa and new jersey. As well as fios. Price is established.

No assurance though. Directv does not have a history of showing all its own stuff. At least not in HD. See GSN...

Yeah for local areas. DIRECTV is national, and they may be asking for something different because of that, and there is no precedent of pricing for that Chanel on a nationwide basis. It's all about price just like every other channel.

Of course there is. Every stinking rsn, including CSN ones. They can ask a higher rate overall saying Philly is worth more but relative pricing is still in place.

That doesn't mean it isn't low enough for DirecTV. Also, those cable systems are not directly competing with Comcast, only FIOS is. And FIOS is not yet available in the entire city either, and won't be fully covered until 2016.

DirecTV would be a major Direct competitor however, and immediately in the whole DMA of Philly.

The price may be established, but they may still be asking for more than DirecTV is willing to pay. Also, Mike White has said the current focus is on retaining customers, not gaining customers. Adding CSN Philly isn't a real priority in that regard.

Here is a new update on broadcast rights for TWC Sportsnet:

http://www.latimes.c...0,3913895.story

They have struck a deal with CBS for coverage of college ball games of San Diego, Las Vegas, and Fresno State Universities. No, it's not anything major, but it pads the value of TWC Sportsnet a bit more.

And the terms of the deal are interesting: It doesn't look like a price was set, not money was exchanged.... but in exchange for the ball games rights, CBS is getting their CBS College Sports network on Time Warner Cable in this region.

What was that about regulated prices again? Sounds to me they did some wheeling and dealing here and TWC got a deal other cable providers (or satellite) couldn't have been making (unless they also own a sports network or 2 to do that with).

Umm I already posted a article about this a page ago.

San Diego State's football is moving to the Big East after this season. Their basketball program which actually has been good the past 5 years is staying in the Mountain West.

Of course. It is the standard canned response. They gave me that response via email about BBC America HD, after the Facebook announcement was made and it went in to test. :D

It confirms what I have always thought of those they have responding to people on their. They are probably told to say anything they can to get people off their back, but not say they are adding or doing something unless it has been confirmed from upstairs first.

Wasn't part of the condition for approval of the NBC - Comcast merger that Comcast had to make CSN Philly available for a reasonable price?

I just checked the guide on my HR34 and channel 695 is coming up as RSN with the Southern Methodist @ Baylor college football game upcoming at 3:30PM PST.

Channel 700 is not even showing up on my guide.
