Did the "test" channel 9732 stop working for you guys earlier today?

It has gone black on my end (error code: 721, "channel not subscribed" message).

Others getting the same or is it still active?

If I had to guess, I would say one of the Directv employees that frequent this forum quietly passed the info along to the engineering dept. which have probably now closed the loophole... ;)

FWIW... I received this email from the Lakers earlier today:

Dear Lakers Fans,

We know that many of you are DirecTV subscribers and remain frustrated that you can't watch the Lakers on Time Warner Cable SportsNet and Time Warner Cable Deportes.

We want to remind you of your choices and what you can do to watch the games as well as all the immersive content on these networks. Verizon FiOS, Time Warner Cable, Cox, Charter, Bright House Networks, and AT&T U-Verse have all reached agreements to carry Time Warner Cable SportsNet and Time Warner Cable Deportes.

If you are interested in getting information about the other TV providers that service your area, visit iwantmylakers.com, enter your zip code, select your TV provider and then click continue. The next screen will list TV providers in your area that are carrying the networks and give you information on how to contact them.

Thank you for your continued support.

Sincerely,
The Los Angeles Lakers

It has already been confirmed that the Lakers have removed D* services from their offices & practice facilities in El Segundo CA where also D* and TWC SportsNet headquarters are located.

With the test channel being removed and the sound of that email, it doesn't look good for LA D* customers. And Mike White was quoted that he wants to retain current customers. Doesn't sound like it to me.

Violate a contract where he sits on BOTH sides!

Root Sports is owned 100% by Directv, so he'd be enforcing a contract against himself? He can also let himself out of the same contract. See when a parent controls the sub it can do that. Or for the sake of argument parent can pay a fine to sub and then sub can send the dollars right back to parent.

Really now, seriously this is your argument? Silly.

If it makes you better he can have his secretary call himself up and leave messages for himself on voice mail and negotiate with himself. Or look in the mirror and talk to himself.

Bottom line is that RSN model is changing and Directv has substantial invetsment in RSNs itself and is doing whatever it can to protect itself from the changes. Sure $2.33 a month or whatever for Root NW and we get High School football......meanwhile over at Pac 12 they are charging 80 cents for 7 channels and get real games! So who is over charging who!?

But to use your argument, that $2.33 per month is going from DirecTV to DirecTV, so in reality, Root is free to DirecTV.

I think it would be very reasonable for DirecTV to say that if we get the sports channel for free (or for a price below a certain amount, say $0.50 per viewer per month) it will be available in-market to all subscribers. If it is more than that amount, it will be in a higher tier. How high the tier depends on how much it costs. There is nothing inconsistant about that.

Has Sixto confirmed removal?

Why would someone is Louisiana get every Texas team when they get the Hornets? People in Dallas don't get Rockets or Spurs, Houston people don't get Mavericks or Spurs, and San Antonio doesn't get Mavericks or Rockets.

I live in northwest Louisiana and I get the Mavs, Rockets and Hornets games. I don't get the Spurs or Thunder games though.

Dish lost 8% revenue even if they didn't have the pay out so you're not correct. You're also incorrect on how business works but it won't change the fact that you won't be happy. So I won't bother to try to muddy the water with facts.

"Excluding the settlement, Dish would have earned $295 million, or about 65 cents per share, down 8 percent from last year." http://news.yahoo.co...1--finance.html

Yea, I am incorrect on how business works? Really, incorrect on how Mike White wants everyone else, except his own RSNs, to go to a sports pack or ala carte? Really? If Mike White wants to change how sports channels work he first needs to lead by example, he is a hypocrite, plain and simple.

I think Mike White ought to set the example and immediately pull 100% owned and controlled Root Sports NW, Root Sports Rocky Mountain, and Root Sports Pittsburgh off of the normal tiers and put them in the sports pack and require all of us subs to pay more for these channels.

The problem with this theory is that in a couple of those markets, Root is the only RSN that DIRECTV offers. How good would it look to have the "Sports Leader" not offer an RSN?

I'm pretty sure the lesson learned would be that they can't get away with it.

Then he should be OK if the other distributors, etc. if Root is moved to a sports tier and not resist that!

And he should be OK with Time Warner putting Lakers channel in a low tier.

And then we are right back to where we are now where White wants his channels in a low tier whereas everyone else's channels in a sports tier. Time Warner is not agreeing to that their channel be in a sports tier and White is not allowing cable operators to move his channels to a sports tier......so what has changed? Not a darn thing.

Or if ROOT is put in a sports tier on Directv then each customer that elects out should save $2.33 on his monthly bill.

Your whole argument is completely silly.....we are going nowhere until Mile White shows others he is serious about changing the sports channel market by leading

Agreed....but here in Oregon, ROOT sports offers almost nothing anymore during fall and winter.'

The marquee sport on Root this fall is high school football from Seattle area high schools so it's not like we're getting much out of this channel anyway so really they might as well pull it off. It's largely worthless and no one would pay extra for this channel.

Blazers are on CSN NW and Directv won't pay for that. To their credit, Directv complains CSN-NW is a part time (limited content) channel demanding full time rates. But really no different than their own wholly owned subsidiary, Root.

I wonder if the Lakers' poor play of yet is influencing some decisions. Right now I really don't care about missing any games. But if they started to click and went on a run and started to generate some buzz, people might start clamoring to see it and start jumping ship...

Root still shows big 12 football among other programming, including national fox sports programming. To portray it as high school football only is not accurate.

Two weeks in to the season..... and no deal in sight.

Looks like this is going the way of PAC12, with DirecTV holding up a big middle finger to everyone.
[Disclaimer] The definition of "soon" is based solely on DirecTV's interpretation of the word, and all similarities with dictionary definitions of the word "soon" are purely coincidental and should not be interpreted as a time frame that will come to pass within a reasonable amount of time.

I called DIRECTV and confirmed I'm no longer in contract. Looks like I'm free to go elsewhere. In my area my choices are AT&T U-verse and TWC. I'm very close to pulling the trigger on AT&T U-verse. Since I already have AT&T U-verse Internet, should be a smooth transition for me. I've already called AT&T U-verse and tested the waters. Looks like I can get a $200 gift card for signing up. This customer of 9+ years is about a week away from making the move. ChicagoBlue's posts have been the main reason I've yet to make the move.
