WOOHOO!!
TWC Sports Net now showing Surfing (HIC) from Hawaii. That's more like it. An off day for Lakers so they are showing Pro Surfing in glorious HD including babes in bikinis. This is something to show other than Lakers basketball........Surfing, Woman's Beach Volleyball, woman's gymnastics, and any sport that shows Cali women in all their natural glory...LOL.

And yes........my name signifies my love for Surfing (licrkr)

... unforgettable 2010 Game 7 on our home court was just incredible and will last forever.

As a Lakers season ticket holder since 2000, I must say that the last few seconds leading up to the final buzzer (as Odom was passing the ball down the length of the court to Kobe) in that memorable Game 7 has got to be the most euphoric moment I have ever experienced at Staples Center. It was the loudest I have ever heard it in there and what made it so surreal was that everything seemed to be happening in slow motion. It was awesome!!!

It's funny. The crowd at Staples Center always gets a bad rap for being too quiet. But, it is so true. Compared to a Clippers home game, for example, the Staples Center during a Laker home game is basically like a library for a majority of the time. Of course, there's the occasional outburst from the crowd, but at certain times, you could hear a pin drop in there.

Here's my top 5 Loudest Lakers Moments at Staples:

5. Game 1, 2001 Finals. Just before tip-off, the crowd was chanting "Sweep, Sweep, Sweep" The place was rocking. This was the year that the Lakers had gone 11-0 in the playoffs up until that game. They ended up losing Game 1 in OT, but eventually won 4 straight to set an NBA Playoff Best W/L Record (15-1)

4. 2008 Christmas Game against the Celtics. As kb24sd had mentioned, the Lakers had just come off an embarrassing loss to the C's in the previous season's Finals. With something to prove, the Lakers beat the Celtics in their first meeting since. The game was sealed when Pau came out to the top of the key to block a shot, steal the ball, and ultimately put game in the refrigerator on a break-away dunk. The crowd went nuts and began the Boston S**ks! chants. (EDIT: It was Ariza with the break-away dunk. The ball was tipped to him after Gasol blocked Ray Allen's 20-footer)

3. Game 4, 2002 Western Conference Finals. The Robert Horry Shot at the buzzer against the Kings. The Lakers didn't have a lead in the game until 0:00 was showing on the clock in the fourth quarter. The Lakers won 100-99.

2. Game 4, 2006 First Round against the Suns. Kobe's buzzer beater in OT gave the Lakers a 3-1 lead in the series against the second seeded Suns. We ended up losing the series in 7, but the moment Kobe hit that game-winning shot, it had been the loudest and craziest Staples had ever been (in my experience), up until...

1. Of course, the Final Buzzer of Game 7, 2010 Finals.

Honorable Mention. I wasn't able to attend Game 7 of the 2000 Conference Finals against Portland, the fourth quarter comeback game. But, if I had, I'm pretty sure it would have been one of the loudest Staples Center moments for me, as well.

And no, I'm not making light of the death of a family member.

my family has a lot of great lakers memories too. most emotional for me was our 2010 title win over the hated celtics. my dad was a huge fan all his life and i grew up on lakers basketball because of him. well, my dad's health was not good at all during the 2010 title run and im so happy he and i were able to watch the guys win the title in game 7. my dad was very emotional and a couple weeks later he wound up passing away. i like to believe that that lakers title win was for him. :)

You mean you don't enjoy Dick Stockton and Tommy Heinsohn, and their unflappable biases favoring the Celtics? I watched game 6 of the 85 finals, and those guys were a piece of work, I had forgotten how bad it was.

If it's a network broadcast, gimme Dick Stockton & Hubie Brown!:)

I agree with most of your game rankings in terms of how loud Staples Center was.

I went to Game 4 of the 2002 WCF against the Kings.Went to Game 1 of the 2001 Finals.Went to Game 4 of the 2006 1st round against Phoenix.

A point that sticks for me was during Kareem's ceremony, if Cook would have spent $3 million, Dr J would have retired a Laker! Can you imagine that! How much was the TWC deal again? Wow.

Magic is amazing, great game @ Philly!

That was the game Elden Campbell made the 3-pointer from half-court *after* the buzzer at the half and the refs counted it. Ah, I remember it well.

I won't go sour grapes on you, however. It was an epic series, and for my money the real NBA finals that year. And Game 5 back at Arco in Sacramento was pretty damn epic too (I was there for that. . .wow).

He was long gone and was traded away for Glen Rice in the 1999 lockout shortened season. The player who made that shot in the game you are referring to is Samaki Walker.

Yes the shot should not have counted but back in 2002 the NBA did not have the instant replay rules & technology to review & correct calls like that shot.

I think that was Samaki Walker that made that shot. That play eventually led the NBA to implement instant replays for all shots made at the end of quarters and to install red lights on the backboards to determine if a player was still in possession of the ball as time expired.

Another thing that comes to mind regarding that series was game 2 at ARCO. Kobe was suffering from food poisoning, apparently from a burger that he had ordered through room service at the hotel they were staying at the night before. I remember reading somewhere that the hotel staff allegedly "did something" to the burger.

If Kobe hadn't gotten sick, perhaps he would have played a better game, which probably would have resulted in a Laker win, rather than a loss. If that had happened, L.A. goes home to Staples up 2-0, rather than 1-1.

That series would have been over, instead of the epic 7-game series that we all remember.

I remember watching Big Shot Bob hit that basket from the top of the key. We were in college (stayed for summer) and we were going nuts.

I actually believe the NBA rigged that series... Sacramento got screwed A LOT. I didn't see it that way then, but now something seemed off.

Seemed off?

Like the Kings' free throw and 3-point shooting being "off" in Game 7? :) The Kings were given every chance to win that Game 7 but couldn't capitalize (16-30 from the FT line + the air balled threes in the fourth).

In hindsight, there may have been rigging, but looking back, the dominant team to me was the Lakers. It only seemed close because Game 2 ended up resulting in the series being tied 1-1, rather than the Lakers up 2-0 and heading home to Staples in the driver's seat (because Kobe had been food poisoned).

The only alleged "rigging", I believe, occurred in Game 6 of that series, in which the Lakers were awarded an unusually large amount of trips (27 attempts in the 4th quarter alone) to the free throw line. The alleged conspiracy was that the NBA wanted/needed to force a Game 7 to boost interest and viewers. That LAL/SAC series was the only one of the playoff match-ups to go 7 games in 2002.

Anyhow, like I had mentioned previously, if Kobe hadn't gotten food poisoning, that series would have been over. Possibly even a sweep, just like the previous year, in which the Lakers beat the Kings in the second round en route to an NBA All-Time Best 15-1 record.

Speaking of rigging, wouldn't it be interesting if it was the NBA (and not some crazy Sacramento fan, allegedly) that was behind the food poisoning incident?

Kobe played like a beast in Game 1 and if that had carried over to Game 2 (he shot 9-21 in Game 2), it would have been a short series. The NBA knew that whoever had come out of the East (turned out to be the Nets, who ended up being swept rather easily by the Lakers in the Finals) would have been no match for the Western Conference Champ.

So, if there was rigging involved, wouldn't it have been in the best interest of the NBA to prolong the LAL/SAC series to make it as "epic" as possible?

People and especially Kings fans & Laker haters are quick to point to Game 6 and the free throw difference in that game between the two teams. But a case can also be made about Game 5 @ Sacramento. Shaq had like a total of 3 free throw attempts that whole game and Kobe was hacked & fouled by Bobby Jackson on the final shot of that game and no foul was called.

Bottom line is the Kings had home court advantage that series and did not take care of business in Games 1 & 7 on their home court that year.Any team can't do that and expect to win a 7 game series.

That was the game that Tim Donaghy, the former NBA ref involved in the NBA rigging scandal, claimed that they (the refs) were instructed by the NBA to manipulate the game to make sure that the series went to a seventh game for higher ratings.

That is probably why Game 6 is always brought up. But like you said, Sacramento had home court and could not take advantage.

I still believe that the Lakers were the dominant team (just like the previous year). But, Sacramento was given so many chances to take down the Lakers (Kobe having food poisoning, Game 5 FT's and hacking Kobe, Game 7 FT's, etc., etc.) and they still couldn't get it done.
