Except that CSN Philly is on lots of cable systems all over eastern Pa and new jersey. As well as fios. Price is established.

That doesn't mean it isn't low enough for DirecTV. Also, those cable systems are not directly competing with Comcast, only FIOS is. And FIOS is not yet available in the entire city either, and won't be fully covered until 2016.

DirecTV would be a major Direct competitor however, and immediately in the whole DMA of Philly.

The price may be established, but they may still be asking for more than DirecTV is willing to pay. Also, Mike White has said the current focus is on retaining customers, not gaining customers. Adding CSN Philly isn't a real priority in that regard.
[Disclaimer] The definition of "soon" is based solely on DirecTV's interpretation of the word, and all similarities with dictionary definitions of the word "soon" are purely coincidental and should not be interpreted as a time frame that will come to pass within a reasonable amount of time.

Here is a new update on broadcast rights for TWC Sportsnet:

http://www.latimes.c...0,3913895.story

They have struck a deal with CBS for coverage of college ball games of San Diego, Las Vegas, and Fresno State Universities. No, it's not anything major, but it pads the value of TWC Sportsnet a bit more.

And the terms of the deal are interesting: It doesn't look like a price was set, not money was exchanged.... but in exchange for the ball games rights, CBS is getting their CBS College Sports network on Time Warner Cable in this region.

What was that about regulated prices again? Sounds to me they did some wheeling and dealing here and TWC got a deal other cable providers (or satellite) couldn't have been making (unless they also own a sports network or 2 to do that with).

Umm I already posted a article about this a page ago.

San Diego State's football is moving to the Big East after this season. Their basketball program which actually has been good the past 5 years is staying in the Mountain West.

Of course. It is the standard canned response. They gave me that response via email about BBC America HD, after the Facebook announcement was made and it went in to test. :D

It confirms what I have always thought of those they have responding to people on their. They are probably told to say anything they can to get people off their back, but not say they are adding or doing something unless it has been confirmed from upstairs first.

I'm willing to bet the price Comcast is asking for - since price is not regulated - isn't anywhere CLOSE to what DirecTV is willing to pay, so why bother to go through the paces.

Wasn't part of the condition for approval of the NBC - Comcast merger that Comcast had to make CSN Philly available for a reasonable price?

Root Sports NW is on DIRECTV... stick to Dish topics.

My bad. I meant to say CSN NW. I don't know what got into me.

I honestly can't see TWC not having this channel available to other providers. This is the Lakers, they would be crucified! Think of all the remote areas throughout Southern Cal who can't get TWC but can get Directv. We will see this channel. Just makes sense.

Think of it this way. CSN Philadelphia is available if Directv wants to add it. Problem is the station is priced so high Directv can't add it without passing the entire cost on to the customer. TWCS LA is priced in the same way. They would have to add a 4 to 5 dollar charge to everone inside that networks tv territory to cover the cost of a station that is way over priced at this time. They have no way to absorb that large of a fee without passing it completely on. Then they would make people mad who don't want it when they see a charge on their bill for it that they can't get rid of without going down to the entertainment package. As long as it is priced at a premium price, they won't add it. I have no doubt that Time Warner has been eying something like this for awhile ever since they took over Adelphia's LA territory. Unless ala carte happens, I would expect a person to need two if not every provider in their area to get every station they want. It's possible even then you wouldn't get everything you want. The days of one provider with everything are gone.

I have never seen this charge either.... Nor have my folks, or anyone else I know. When did you start seeing it?

So am I really the only subscriber in LA paying the $2 regional sports fee? I don't wanna be the only one paying $6 extra if they pick up this channel.

well then you better hope that sports becomes a HBO like add on as under the law you can have basic cable and add stuff like HBO.
I want CLTV / CLTV HD on direct tv.
