Unless you have access to the exact terms of the deal, you have no idea which side "blinked."

Oh were you in negotiations? Please share how White blinked. I bet it's an intriguing story.

I wonder if those that specialized in hyperbole and rhetoric (ie, "fanboys", etc) will step up here and partake of a certain snack:

From the reports I've seen. Customers need to be subscribed to the sports pack which is like $11.99 a month.

No you won't. Its available in choice and above for Lakers market subs. Sports pack will only be needed for out of Lakers market people. Just like all the other RSNs. Those earlier rumors turned out to be hogwash.

Perhaps it won't even be available in the Sports Pack. Just in market 24/7 and NBALP for games only.

So Mike White blinked? I thought the RSN model was broken and we were supposed to see a shift in RSN's to the Sports Pack, or a la carte. I guess the Lakers were just too important to go without. I really didn't think this deal was going to get done. I still don't hold out hope for the P12Net, but I would love to be wrong again...

I think Time Warner Cable caved and agreed to having the cost of the channel per sub be different in different areas. They need DIRECTV more than DIRECTV needed them.

With that said, if dish doesn't pick them up very soon, it would not surprise me if dish didn't renew fsn west and prime ticket the next time those two are up for negotiation, if they can negotiate those two separate from the other FOX RSNs.

A far as I know, every RSN is in the sports pack, sans games of course...

I would hope it would be for those who would like to watch the college sports on the network e.g. Mountain West Hoops.

Suffice to say, a lot of the "reports" that have been out there have been incorrect.

I'd love to know the financial details here. It's win win for both entities, but who really won the deal (beside the fans)? Did D* get their way? TWC get their way?

In Lakers market, or everywhere?

Like all RSNs, it is just within the designated market. Those with Choice and above in the local market will get it.

My guess is that Time Warner Cable SportsNet HD will be packaged like all sports regionals.

Is Time Warner Cable Deports HD also going to get added?

The reason why it is more important for them to be on Direct vs Dish is because most of the bars and restaurants use DirecTV (because of the sports packages). These corporate accounts bring DirecTV and the channel providers some money. Dish is probably the least used TV provider in bars and restaurants.

+1 and dont forget that there are alot of fans besides the Lakers that "needed" the channel. Places in Las Vegas, Fresno, San Diego and other college areas e.g. New Mexico and WCC schools that have D at their establishment needed it.
