While he is best remembered for "The Andy Griffith Show' and "Matlock" I always felt his best work was in two of his early films "A Face In The Crowd" and "No Time For Sergeants"......R.I.P. Andy.

The Andy Griffin show really ushered in the winning sit-com format of an ensemble cast where the star was the facilitator and let the other people around him get most of the laughs.

The shows and movies were great. But he was a great storyteller too. If you never listened to one perhaps theres a podcast or something out there to download. Usually under Comedy.

Thanks for the entertainment.

I first watched Andy Griffith do one of his standups -- "What it was, was football", probably on the Sullivan show. His movie roles were entertaining, but his three television series were beautifully done. Another great talent has passed. RIP, Andy!

Edit: I seem to remember reading that Andy was not easy to work with, and wasn't at all the folksy guy people saw in the movies and on TV. Apparently either pompous or just a very private person.

Originally, Andy's character was supposed to be the funny one. But, he quickly realized that the show worked better if he played the straight man. In a sense, he gave up a bit of the spotlight to make the show better.

I am at total loss for words.

Andy Griffith was a fantastic actor and has been a favorite of mine since as long as I can remember. When I was young, our community did not yet have cable TV and about the only time I ever got to watch the show was when the family stayed in a hotel which had cable TV (and which carried either KTLA or KPHO).

For me, I liked the B/W episodes of Andy Griffith show the best and will try and watch them when I can. I had so many favorite episodes that it is hard to choose one as my favorite but the one which comes to my mind is "Andy's Vacation".

Rest in Peace, Andy!

Opie the Birdman was classic. The one where Opie kills the mother bird with his slingshot and now the chicks are going to starve.

"I'm really sorry, pa."

"That won't bring that bird back to life".
