Bend OR still doesn't have our CBS station.

Sorry to hear that but thanks for the update.

It's been 3 weeks and still no local CBS in Bend. Here's the response from Direct to my question to them about the situation:

"Dear Mr. Micheletti,

Thanks for writing about getting local CBS.

I am sorry that we cannot provide this local CBS channel to you. We would love to provide this in your area but due to legal or contractual restrictions we cannot give this station at the moment.

I have forwarded your feedback to DIRECTV's Management Team, who review every suggestion, inquiry and comment for trends from our most important customers to determine what changes should be considered."

So, it oesn't look like it's happening anytime soon. It may be part of the problem Direct is having with CBS Network in negotiations. Or it may just be BendBroadband (the local station owner) playing hardball, which is also quite likely.

Good grief! Bend Broadband made it sound like they just needed to sign a piece of paper- and that was weeks ago.

Are you happy with the local news provided by the local Bend ABC, CBS and NBC affiliates? I get my news from the Portland stations now. I'd actually prefer to have local news but I don't want to change my service address if the local news is really "cheesy". Also, is there local news programming on all three channels?

Thanks!
Brian

KBNZ is the KOIN feed and KOHD is the CBS feed from Eugene I believe. KFOX and KTVZ share the same feed which I think is produced in Bend.

No problem. I don't actually watch any of the news shows except occasionally I will so what I said is what I understand from other sources.

The CBS feed that you get from Eugene is KVAL and their news is halfway decent. I am from SoCal and I am used to some pretty good news. The problem is that not much happens up here, so they don't bother with a whole lot of in depth reporting. In fact, it doesn't seem like they do any investigation at all. I tend to cull some info from the local paper and KEZI website. Takes about 2 minutes. Local news is just not worth the time..

What I've noticed is they don't have the local news on very often. In the Portland market it seems like somebody is broadcasting local news from 5:00AM to 7:00 or 8:00 and again from 4:00PM until 6:00 or 7:00. Plus they have coverage on weekend mornings. Not so with Bend locals. No weekend morning news at all. Not much local coverage weekdays either. Oh well...

I'm kind of tired of watching the Portland news anyway. Too depressing. Just wanted a bit of local news to see what's going on in this area.

Is anybody else having problems getting KCBS, Channel 2/391 out of Los Angeles? I just started having problems last week (pixelating), and as of yesterday, can't get it at all. I checked the TP list and see it's on TP 29, but don't know if it's been there all along or not. I couldn't find it at all on a previous TP list I got from this site, so can't see if it's been changed.

Per my previous post, "never mind" - I found a TP list from last June and they have moved CBSw from TP 30 to TP 29, and I get "0" signal on that TP! Bah, humbug! lol!

You can find a list that is updated weekly here:

If the location in your profile is correct, outside of the obvious TOS violations, you're much too south for some of the conus beams.

I just noticed that the Fox affiliate for Jonesboro has changed from KBSI out of Cape Girardeau to Fox 5 WNYW HD out of New York.

KIMO 13, the ABC affiliate for Anchorage, Alaska, was removed from Directv early today, apparently in a fees dispute.

Just in time for tonight's Academy Awards, probably the highest rated night for ABC this year. Classy.

Chilcoot,

Our TPN Map shows your ABC HD is provided on channel 13 as KYUR, provided by the ABC affiliate KYUR located there at home in Anchorage. A station named KIMO does not appear in the data anywhere.

This is your Local, you live there... what am I missing here?

Thanks,
gct

None that I'm aware of.
13 very small DMA's w/o Directv Locals of any form.
1 SD only
That's all that's left of 210 DMA's.

Thanks for the correction, sorry for the confusion. The station doesn't refer to its callsign often, and I forgot the change.

It's a terrible affilliate, does nothing for the community.

We need a reality check from you folks in Syracuse, please.

The data is not clear in telling us if your PBS channel 24 is provided in HD or is only provided in SD. The records for your PBS/24 clearly show the channels as MPEG4 -- but you need to let us know what the payload resolution is.

The detective work is easy: with your receiver set to "Native On", select your channel 24. Then just notice what 'Resolution' indicator is lighted.

And let us know what you find..........

I'll check when I get home tonight. Just to let you know a little backstory on WCNY - the Syracuse PBS station. They have used their 24.4 subchannel as their HD feed, while D* has carried their 24.1 and 24.2 channels which are just SD. WCNY is currently transitioning to a new broadcast center and will also change their HD feed to the 24.1 channel. I think some of this is in progress this week. I've been checking but have yet to see any true HD on 24.1, but I've not paid attention to what resolution 24.1 has been coming through at. I'm hoping to soon turn on 24 and see an HD broadcast.

Another Syracuse question. The CW affiliate, WSTQ, was only available in HD to cable customers for a long time, but then in January of this year, they upgraded the OTA signal to HD as a subchannel of the WSTM signal (WSTM is NBC downsampled to 720p on 3.1 and WSTQ is in 720p on 3.2). When the change was first made, we immediately began getting CW in HD on D*, but then about a week or so later, it changed to just a letterboxed and pillarboxed image and that's how it remains today. The station engineer doesn't know why D* at first picked up and passed through the HD signal but then stopped. He is having trouble getting an answer from D*. Anyone here have any insight?
