According to another message board, beIN Sports may be on the sports pack for English based packages and any mas package. The details are not clear right now though.

DirecTV has been real good with carrying La Liga matches in the past few years, I hope that will continue because I'm becoming a huge Barcelona fan.

Please tell me you are not using Oliver as a reliable source here. You do realize he's almost always wrong, and even when he's right, it's likely just a mistake on his part?

That's why I said the details are not clear right now. I don't know of him as well as you do on the Big Soccer board. But I was clearly surprised he was able to pinpoint the packages beIN was going to be on.

Please don't hang me on this issue, I want beIN to be on D* just as bad as any soccer fan here.

I would love these channels. As a soccer fan, this is a must-have channel. :) Not that I can watch it an awful lot due to the time differences, but catching a game in the weekend is nice!

Its ok. Oliver aka Huhe has made many people believe in his far-fetched stories. Basically he is the story of the biy who cried wolf. That he has been wrong so many times we basically don't believe him anymore.

Sorry for going a bit off topic, but does anyone know how long D* has a contract with Gol TV? This channel seems like a waste of bandwdth and $$$ at this point.

GolTV still has the Bundesliga, and quite a bit of South American stuff going on. Losing La Liga certainly didn't help it, but there's still enough content. Whether it survives is another question entirely.

Not hanging you at all. As for pinpointing packages, we could all do the same. Of course be-IN will be part of the Sports Pack if they cut a deal. I hope D* also cuts a deal with be-IN.

I think GOLTV was founded as a way to bring Central/South American soccer to the US spanish speaking audience. I think they are still accomplishing that mission even with losing La Liga.

Interestingly, over on one of the DISH forums they're saying that beIN Sports is showing up as testing. Is there any way for someone here to check one of the birds?

He goes by Sixto, just follow this thread.

Just so you will understand, if any channel shows up as testing on DirecTV, it would launch a week or two later in most cases.

We would prefer the August 1st launch date although it isn't worth the effort if not much will be shown live at first. With that said, the real target date should be the 8th since channels usually launch on a Wednesday and the first live match is scheduled for August 10th when the French Ligue 1 has its opening match.

Typically with DirecTV, they don't announce anything, and DirecTV employees aren't allowed to reveal anything..... until about 48-24 hours before the actual launch.

More often then not, we will find out through Sixto's reports whether a channel is in test before we find out anything official from DirecTV.

With NEW channels, an announcement may come sooner than e.g. an existing channel launching in HD.

Here an article on the channels from Multichannel.com:

http://www.multichan...hannel_Pair.php

After reading this article my fellow soccer fans, I think now's the time to hit the panic button!!

It's Aug 1, and these clowns dont even have a signal up yet and to top it all off, and some of the major carriers HAVE NOT EVEN HEARD FROM THESE GUYS...
If they're idea of "working day and night" to get carriage deals is sending out papers and waiting for the phone to ring, then we are all screwed...

I cant believe all the money these guys spent on rights and are still not ready yet to even produce a signal is mind boggling.. I did not even know they bought the rights to the Football Championship (England's 2nd division) and the Carling Cup as well...
Check out the channels facebook page and there is a lot of p*ssed off people over there wondering why spend all this money on rights and not have a system to put them on...

Another thing, with all these rights, how are they gonna accommodate all the live games of all these leagues or all they gonna go tape delay on everything!! And no sub licensing anything either!! What a mess...

I always thought the "calling your cable operator and request ____" was a big waste of time because the operators already have an idea what they are gonna carry and I always thought it was a tool for content providers to have leverage while negotiating deals.. My thing is this.. beIN should not be asking US if we are in, we should be asking THEM ARE THEY READY.. After reading this article, the answer to that question is a emphatic NO!!

It gives the carrier an idea what the demand is. If the demand is low, (in other words: how many customers would walk away if we didn't carry these channels) they probably aren't too interested in carrying the channel. If they get MANY calls that want the channel, they may be more poised to make a deal, as many customers that want it, might also mean a larger number of customers that will leave if they don't.

Personally, but that is just because of the type of sports I like, I would prefer BeIN Sports USA over carrying the PAC12 channels, but the latter will lose a lot more customers if they don't carry them, while for BeIN Sports, they probably won't. I have called DirecTV and asked about BeIN Sports actually, but I haven't (and I won't) in regards to PAC12.

My thing is this.. beIN should not be asking US if we are in, we should be asking THEM ARE THEY READY.. After reading this article, the answer to that question is a emphatic NO!!

They don't seem to have any carriers. The article states that they are "99% sure they have 1 carrier at launch, but the goal is 2 carriers at launch".

So who would be that 1 carrier they might make a deal with? DirecTV because of sports bars and English pubs across the nation that show footy? Well, we really don't know.... They do have "the right stuff" as far as soccer rights and coverage concerns, so they should be able to get on with someone.

But it is indeed rather concerning that they don't seem to have ANY carriers right now.

Until BeIn signs on with someone the carriers have all the leverage here right? It's not like any carrier has to worry about losing customers if it's not available anywhere. On the other hand BeIn has acquired rights to 3 of the top 5 leagues in Europe plus a host of other international soccer and has to know it's a disaster if nobody can see it. If a cable channel launches and nobody is able to see it, does it really exist?
