Yes, RTV appears the odd man out, when looking at the roster of oldies stations. Unfortunately, we don't get any of them, in are DMA. I wish Directv would consider adding them, in the future.

My hope is that all bit-leeching subchannels disappear. If their content is popular enough, i hope it finds its way to a standalone channel.

Oh, they'll likely disappear. . . to mobile bandwidth.

As you can see by my avatar, I am a supporter of MeTV, RTV and AntennaTV. If it has a following, I wish Directv would carry it. We have none of these subchannels, in our DMA, and have to go over the air, long distance, if we want to see it. I've spoken to my local affiliates, although interested, they have not moved to do anything about it.

The way I understand it, sub-channels like MeTV, RTV, AntennaTV etc, will only be carried by DirecTV if they get an official broadcast license and become a stand-alone station.

They have done so in 30-odd markets across the country, but not in the remaining 170 or so DMA's. In those markets where they have become their own station, DirecTV and Dish have started carrying them.
[Disclaimer] The definition of "soon" is based solely on DirecTV's interpretation of the word, and all similarities with dictionary definitions of the word "soon" are purely coincidental and should not be interpreted as a time frame that will come to pass within a reasonable amount of time.

I am the Stig.

It'd be nice if they could come to a deal with them like they have Ion, where they just carry one of them nationally for everyone. The local affiliates would probably fight that pretty hard though.
Sometimes when I reflect back on all the beer I drink I feel ashamed. Then I look into the glass and think about the workers in the brewery and all of their hopes and dreams. If I didn’t drink this beer, they might be out of work and their dreams would be shattered. Then I say to myself, "It is better that I drink this beer and let their dreams come true than be selfish and worry about my liver."

We had RTV for six months here, but the station got sold by Clear Channel and the new owner flipped it to Spanish.

The problem with the moved of RTV to a sub channel, at least here in the San Francisco Bay area, is that Directv does NOT show the channel guide as what is playing. It shows "regular programming" which Directv says that RTV is not feeding the info. That is a full of BS for the Chicago Tribune and zipit.com, I could be wrong about the url, shows what is on. Even our Channel OTA 1.1, yes we have a 1.1, shows the programming info which is equivalent to the tvguide channel

I'm actually glad to see some new folks getting their HD locals.

That said, I still anticipate that most launches of new national HD channels will be primarily tied to content provider contract renewal successes.

There's been a boatload of transponder rebalancing, so they could be getting ready for more upgrades.

If I'm counting right, in the last week they made 5 new 1060/1070, which should mean 5 new HD slots available to be filled elsewhere.

I do not watch Reelz because of the way they butcher movies. HD is not going to fix that.

That's a hard statement to make these days - BBCA and DIY represented pretty much the last of the channels that most of us wanted. It's been a good year.

Personally - I'll take any HD additions happily, but I'd really like to see H2 and HLN added.

TNN isn't going to be on DirecTV, Dish or cable. It will be on another venue. I forgot which.

Wow! Hadn't heard that! Why wouldn't it be on DirecTV? All they have to do is update the guide name from SPIKEHD to TNNHD. I personally think this is a good move to return to TNN, as Spike lost its edge after WWF Raw switched back to USA.

As I understand it, the new TNN is going to be a distributed subchannel. Spike isn't going anywhere.

Right. Completely different ownership. The trademarks and logo from TNN were bought from Viacom, so they'll be totally unrelated.

Reelz has been showing original (or American exclusive) content... and I suspect that may be why some want it.
