Epix has been slow to grow their distribution since signing that Netflix deal.

Would be nice if ... the Military Channel were broadcasting in HD.

It is, read several posts back, Discovery launched an HD feed for it on December 1st.

My vote is for any channel that doesn't show "Reality" programming.
It's a very short list.

;)

I know, and that is odd as they are carrying some nice studio products no one else is getting now.

IF the stories are true from the Viacom fiasco, it seems that they now want to have it be part of an existing lower level package instead of in things like HD Extra, or as a premium. Which is not the way that Dish got the deal.

Veering slightly off topic...

I have to give Directv pretty high marks for delivering some impressive stuff in 2012. A nice variety of new HD, the new HD Guide, squashing some of the software bugs, new boxes, lots more TV Everywhere / mobile device stuff. Yeah, it's been a good year to be a Directv customer.

But when I look at the typical 1-hour drama on all those glorious HD channels and find that the commercials are now approaching 20 minutes out of the 60, and with annoying bug crawls in the lower third popping up and blatant product placement everywhere, even in some cases creeping into the dialog, and cheaper and cheaper reality programming everywhere... I have to wonder where my $100/month is going.

The picture may be crystal clear, but what I'm seeing ain't as pretty as it used to be.

Yes. I agree with you about the "new HD." I believe this much because I don't complain like I had in 2011. More is to come, as Satelliteracer, has mentioned. But what is telling is what exactly will be coming one by one. (DirecTV having added during 2012, alphabetically, the likes of BBC America HD, E! Entertainment Television HD, truTV HD, and Turner Classic Movies HD were recognition of then-missing basic-cable HDs which needed to come in.) I've listed what I figure is among the potential for the next round. (Cooking Channel HD and H2 HD are the first two which spring to my mind.) But a twist here and/or there is not ruled out by me.

Well... I had earlier predicted TV Land HD prior to the season premieres of "Hot In Cleveland" and "Happily Divorced" tonight, but I was apparently wrong.

:(

I was looking over the last week to see if those series' season premieres would have their HD made available on TV Land On Demand. No luck.

Actually nothing on demand at all for them. Guess they will be delayed at best.

Looking forward to more HD as SR has mentioned. I would guess sometime in first quarter of 2013, although this year would be great.(wishful thinking)....H2, LMN, HLN would be nice additions.

Usually TV Land's On Demand content is delayed by about 2 or 3 weeks.

1st quarter 2013 sounds right, that way DTV customers won`t think it`s much of a sting when the yearly price increases come.

I'm thinking January. Holidays die down. NFL dies down. New year and all that.

I haven't had much chance to care (swamped right now), but that does suck. :(

A lot of pay-tv network show premiere in January ahead of the February Nielsen (not related) ratings sweeps.

It wasn't that long ago though Viacom tried to force it down DirecTV's throat.

With the Showtime upgrade complete, is Starz/Encore still on track or was it delayed?

Figure I'll ask here. Did BabyFirst TV (293) get an upgrade?

It is no longer in 4x3 format and is much clearer.

Since its MPEG-4 only (requires HD equipment), it appears DirecTV has made it a native 16:9 widescreen SD channel? I wonder if its like a 720x480 resolution or similar? The SD MPEG-2 feeds are only like 480x480.
