I have a friend with an R15-500 that keeps going to sleep.
Can someone give me a step by step to help him turn off the power saving feature.
Thanks

Or does the R15-500 not have the power saving feature like my HR's?

I'd check through the menus to see what settings it has.
DirecTV since '96, Waivers for ABC, CBS, NBC, & Fox, HR23-700 & HR24-500/AM21, using ethernet based MRV.

Good Luck.

I think the receiver manual can be found on the DirecTV website.
See if that helps.

I had an R15 until June and mine did not have power save at that time.

I just read thru the software update / issues threads and no one mentioned a power save mode.

Thanks,
I did the same thing. I don't think they update the manuals quickly enough when they add these things. It may very well not have it. But it is acting like it does.

I recently read a post for an HD receiver and they were saying it was going to sleep.
The fact was it was not.
What it was doing was that the Screen Saver was coming on when they were watching live TV and had not pressed a remote control button in a couple of hours.
Can you find out if the screen saver is coming to the screen ?

I am asking now, but I believe it is the power saving blank screen where the box goes to sleep, not a screensaver.

Addendum: no, it is definitely the screen saver from lack of button pressing.
Can that be disabled on a R15-500?

Tell them that when it is not set to record to restart the receiver.
I do not have one so I do not know the exact steps to tell you for the software restart.

There is a red button next to the smart card that they can push and it will reset it.
Tell them to do that and see if that fixes it.

Yea, we have been through all that.
I am hoping for someone that has one of these to do a search through their set-up menu's for a power saving yes/no option.
But I am going through some old threads now where this has been a bug since as late as Nov'11.
