Have the distinct feeling that things are finally going to get interesting (in a good way) very soon...

Report: AT&T to make bid for CSN Houston:

Great. Just what we need. Another provider in the rsn business. Even if they plan to merge with directv, that isn't assured.

How about somebody not in the cable business buys/starts RSNs?

Root Sports Houston?

So long as they get the pricing right and get the games back on the air, they could call it Sports Dung Houston for all I care. (Disclaimer: the preceding is not intended to be a direct reference to the Astros, who are currently only the third-worst team in MLB, rather than the more-customary worst team)

To paraphrase our oh-so-beloved (at least in his mind, when he looks in the mirror) Jim Crane, go ahead and write the check. The RSNs are obviously owned by who they are for the same reason Willie Sutton robbed banks---that's where the money is.

Why would someone want to buy it, rather than letting it go bankrupt and making new deals with the teams? Or do they think that the teams would somehow want more money than the CSN Houston contract would give them? That seems unlikely, given what happened to the network.

You didn't read much, or any, of the thread, did you? CSN Houston was forced into Chapter 11 in February of this year. What's left of the now-nearly valueless network, including what is being bid upon by the heretofore-unnamed parties, is the current topic of discussion/interest. Regardless of the eventually outcome, new deals with the teams are an absolute given, if not a prerequisite.

As an aside, but still somewhat related, "For the third time in two seasons, an Astros game Wednesday on Comcast SportsNet Houston had a 0.0 Nielsen household rating." Maybe if tonyd79 and I pool our pocket change, we, too, can submit a credible bid.  :righton:

Yes, indeed, kiddos, it's getting closer and closer...

AT&T, DirecTV to take over Comcast SportsNet Houston

AT&T and DirecTV Sports Networks apparently will become the sole owners of the network now known as Comcast SportsNet Houston under a plan of reorganization filed late Wednesday night with federal bankruptcy court...However, the presence of DirecTV Sports Networks as a partner in the reorganized company would lead to the conclusion that CSN Houston will become the newest Root Sports network, joining regional sports networks in Denver, Pittsburgh and Seattle owned or operated by DirecTV.

I still liked my name for the new network better.

If ATT/DTV take ownership, is it safe to say this channel will be on DTV soon?

"Soon" in DIRECTV terms or "soon" in a normal individual's terms? There is a difference. ;)

In any event, from the recently updated report (emphasis added):

"In a statement Thursday morning, the companies said, 'The Houston Regional Sports Network, along with the Houston Astros and Houston Rockets, filed with the U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Houston a proposal to transfer ownership to a joint venture between DIRECTV and AT&T. Once the proposal is voted on by the creditors and approved by the court, DIRECTV and AT&T look forward to providing this great sports programming to Astros and Rockets fans throughout the region.'"

So, although there are still a lot of Ts to be crossed and Is to be dotted, this is definitely a very promising development for the AT&T and DIRECTV subscribers who are still hoping to be able to view a few Astro games before the season ends.

I hope we get it because I'm screwed during Yankees games since all of  Texas is Astros territory... EI blocks the games.

If you stop responding to them or put them on ignore, then eventually they'll go away.

To borrow from the popular Maxwell Smart line in the old "Get Smart" TV series would say;

"Oh I see, it's the oooold hold out and then take the channel over in bankruptcy trick eh?" ... :)

Awesome.  Hope we can see the Rockets play this year on TV and the Astros next spring.

Looks like we may finally get to see the Rockets play again (other than on TNT).

Not surprisingly, it looks like Comcast is appealing the initial valuation ruling directly to the 5th Circuit, which, if they agree to hear it, may significantly delay any final sale decision:

Maybe D*/AT&T should say "hey we give or share with you CSN Houston in exchange you give us access to CSN NW and CSN Philly". :D

Comcast has declined an immediate appeal to the 5th Circuit, so given the totality of the proceedings thus far, it's now about 99.44% certain that Isgur will approve the reorganization...
