D* should turn on the DNS feeds of WNBC, WABC, WCBS and WNYW so everyone can watch the NYC storm coverage in HD.

Probably legalities. Notice no commercials on sandy channel.

I was on a business trip (yeah, I did have a job once) just north of Galveston in the Clear Lake area and we got evacuated when Andrew entered the Gulf. Southern Texas folks prepare a lot more efficiently than we do in NJ and, coupled with the warning of total evacuation or die on Galveston, it was a whole lot scarier than anything I've ever seen in NJ.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure TX handles it like we do here in FL. Total panic and chaos but at least everyone knows what to do.

Unlike NY...

This may have something to do with Sandy:
All local stations in Greenville, NC market are down. Signal strength on satellite 103S suddenly dropped from 95 to 74. Report of loss of locals in Harrisburg, PA were also posted.

Other satellites show normal signal strengths, including 103ca and 103cb.

Add Hartford, CT locals to that list. All I get is a black screen for all the CT locals. Luckily I also get NY locals for significantly viewed.

All the locals in Baltimore are out too.

But we can still watch them on the hurricane channel (when they rotate through to them)

A high-rise crane has collapsed. It is dangling about 60 stories above Central Park West & 57th St.

The brick facade of a four story building has fallen off the face of the building.

For me, I so far been on the lucky side of the storm. Have high winds, but little rain. The wind is acting like a blow dryer for trees with wet leaves.

I just might get thru this without losing power.

But lower Manhattan is getting flooded as the storm surge is almost 14' over high tide. Manhattan can handle up to 12'. Con Ed has cut off power to sections of lower Manhattan because transformers began to blow up as they got water logged.

Thanks. Makes sense.

Guess directv shouldn't put stuff where there are hurricanes. ;)
