I always turn the lights off on my HR23 as it's in the bedroom.
But, the lights on the living room HR24 don't bother me.

How do you know if your HRs are randomly rebooting?

I was reaching for the HR that was just installed and the installer asked me what I was doing. Went like this:

I(installer)--What are you doing?

Me--Turning off the front panel lights.

I--Can't be done.

Me--Watch.

I--What did you do (I placed myself in front of him and didn't let him see what I was doing)? I didn't think that was possible.

Me--How long you been with D*?

I--3 months

Me--What did you do before that?

I--Pest control.

Good times!!!

Rich

I don't. I've never seen the HR23 do a random reboot, but since the blue ring is off I'd know if it did. The HR24 seems to be well behaved. I also don't worry about random reboots due to power drops as both are on UPSs.
DirecTV since '96, Waivers for ABC, CBS, NBC, & Fox, HR23-700 & HR24-500/AM21, using ethernet based MRV.

But it is a nice easy way to know if the box rebooted.

Great point, I always know if the 24 rebooted, I always have the blue lights on highest, if it re-boots, the lights are dimmer. I like the blue lights on the 24. 99.93% of reboots are a new NR.

Being on a UPS doesn't seem to make any difference, my 20-700s still occasionally reboot for no apparent reason and they're on UPS devices.

When an NR hits, I have to reset my 10 HRs that are on MRV, so it's essential that I know when one comes down. Aside from that, I don't know what else they are for.

I actually wondered about that. He was the second straight pest control installer I had come to the house.

You live in jersey, right? Is "pest control" the new "waste management?"

No, they actually go after termites and that sort of thing. Don't make much money, the companies don't give them the proper safety equipment, don't give them proper access to MSDS sheets and seem to run as they wish in spite of the regulatory bodies.

Seemed like a progression here in NJ, work for a pest control company, then move "up" to D* then find a job that pays some money. Interim jobs, in other words.

Waste management is still picking up garbage....
