I have a Direct TV HR24-100 and the box is in-operable. Is there a way to capture my recordings to a stand alone hard drive so I can watch on the new box that is being sent to me? Thanks for your help in advance.

No.

I'm sure Directv can't wait to get their hands on your unit.

There was a thread around here somewhere that detailed how to move the recordings using a PC. I can't find it at the moment.

Found it. http://www.dbstalk.c...hard drive copy
DirecTV since '96, Waivers for ABC, CBS, NBC, & Fox, HR23-700 & HR24-500/AM21, using ethernet based MRV.

But I think there are two issues with that. One, it requires opening the receiver. And it would only help for things recorded using an AM21.

If its already inoperable, there is no way to get the recordings off the drive and make them playable.
