Trying to install a EA 1000.4 dish for my dad at his lake house. He acquired the dish from a friend (it's not a black dish so I think it may be and older 1000.4). We have installed several 300's, 500's, and a few 1000.2's over the years...I've never done a 1000.4.

ZIP CODE 71726

Anyway...I have looked up my skew and have it set to 62 degrees, my elevation is 35 (based on a neighbors setup) and I'm getting 72.7 (using transponder 5) locked in at 39 power. It will not lock in on any other satellite, if I move it to 61 it says locked in on wrong satellite 72.7 and same thing on 77.

I do a check switch and it only see's 72.7 on port 1 even though I have port 2 cable hooked up. The check switch does 4 of 4 test and verifies 1000.4 switch and that ports 2 and 3 are connected but no reception.

Can anyone tell me what might be wrong? I've tried playing with the skew and elevation but I get the same results.

Are you sure you are hitting 72 with the correct lnb. Cover both outside ones with foil and see if you still have 72. Or it may be a WA lnb assembly (since you can now get either assembly for either dish), if it is the lnb's do not line up for EA.

I will try that. It is the EA assembly....it's the one with 61.5 kinda out there by it's self.

That means you hit 72 with the wrong lnb. This explains why nothing else came in. While the lnb's are still covered, aim for 72, once you get it in, see what else you are then getting.

tried that too and got nothing. Not real sure about the lnb being "good" seeings how I have no idea where my dad drug this up from.

These are the angles I"m showing for your zip code with the 1000.4 dish:

zip - 717xx - Ele:47, Az: 142, Sk: 63

I hope this helps. Thanks.

Ray, any reason my neighbor's 1000.4 would be set to Ele: 35, Az: 148, Sk: 60....they claimed it was working with HD.

They have a pole mount low to the ground so I was able to see pretty good what they had. Their lnbf is model A21CA2-WL090MJ29.

MY DAD'S LNBF IS A21CA2-WD0802OJM

ALSO OUT OF CURIOSITY...WHEN SETTING ELEVATION DO YOU ALIGN TO THE CENTER OF THE BOLT?
EDIT: FOUND SOMETHING ON THE NET THAT SAYS TO ALIGN GOING BY THE METAL EDGE ON TOP OF THE BOLT/NUTT SET SCREW WHICH MAKES SENSE.

Could you take a pix of the el adjustment so we can tell you? There have been many types of dishes over the years so it could be hard to tell without viewing it. I also forgot, if you ran a check switch after you found 72, it is possible you may only be able to find 72 even if you are aligned properly. It's a good idea to clear the matrix (run check switch with coax not connected to the receiver) and don't run it again until you find all the sats you need.

I'm actually doing that now after doing some more reading. I'll see if I can get a pic up...here in a bit. I was reading if the box had ever been on WA which this one has...it may not want to see EA birds at all.

I know have 72.7 in the middle lnb and can cover it with my hand and it goes away. Signal strength is 37 on transponder 9, I go to either of the others and it just locks in on 72.7 and says wrong satellite. I've verified my elevation at 47, all I have is a cell phone for a compass it's pretty much right on 142 degrees SE. I've checked the mount with a level and it's level. I have not rerun check switch since clearing it out.

What is typical on signal strength? Seems like in the 30's is pretty much fine.

Find the LOWEST SIGNAL level transponder on 72, then using very small adjustments, maximize that signal. You will have to go through all 32 transponders to find the weakest to do this adjustment. This weakest signal will probably be the the upper 40's / lower 50's when it's done right. If you have the skew adjusted - you will not want to adjust it any more.

After this is accomplished, Run a check switch. Now the receiver should find 61.5 and 77.7 as well as 72 satellites.
You CAN put antennas on your owned and/or controlled property...

32 on most 72's transponders is low, should be mid 50's at least.

32 quality is low and can be gone the signal when the weather change, the dish seems off a bit , is the pole straight up ?

I was using trans 5 or 9 as suggested in the install manual I found online. I tried several others prior to that but only found a few that would pull in any kind of signal. I now believe the dish is close in alignment (a lot closer than when I started out) so hopefully it's just a matter of tweaking a few things.

I would check a range of channels, 22, 23, 24, and 32 for 72. The only one I would specifically would be the one with your locals on as well, they may be a little lower and may tune in differently. What I mean is while an adjustment on other channels may raise them but may lower your locals and if you locals are on spot beam and too low, they may go be interrupted by loss of signal when the rest are not.
