"Max Headroom" already thought of this. That's how the networks knew the "blipverts" were causing viewers' heads to explode.

So when I am watching "Moonshiners", will they be able to tell if the liquor I am drinking is tax-paid or not?

Expect several government studies to be conducted on precisely that question.

Goes hand in hand with this patent from Microsoft. Basically, if more people are watching the content than are licensed for it, the content shuts off or they charge you more.

Instead of paying extra per cable/sat box, we may eventually have to pay per person watching. Cable companies and content providers are probably drooling at the possibilities.

People are buying cell phones, PCs and laptops with cameras and microphones. They use Skype and Google Talk.

By the way, think about the fact that your cell phone is a tracking device. You cannot turn off the 911 locator. This means you can be tracked anywhere. This is how they caught McAfee yesterday. The photos that can be taken on a cell phone and sent, can also be tracked. Throw in the US Government requests to cell phone companies for tracking information.

The, there is US Government already plans to launch drones to monitor citizens

So, it is only a matter of time that the convenience of two way video/microphone may become used for other purposes, beyond targeted ads. In the book "1984" everyone had a Telescreen, a two way TV device the average person could not turn off; only politicians could. People were forced to have it.

This to me sounds like class action lawsuit. I'd liken it to unauthorized/illegal wiretapping. They have no business knowing what goes on in my living room, let alone my household.

If you agree to it in their terms of service then you are giving them written consent. If you don't agree to it you can't use their service.

So long as they are up front about it, you would always have the option not to sign up.

I wonder how many people already have a TV with a camera looking at them that don't know it.

I have a Sony XBR-65HX929. First thing I did was go through all the menus to turn off all the crap. It was then that I happened upon a setting with a small video window displaying my room. Since this is a "smart" (questionable) TV meant to be connected to the internet... Not saying that anything nefarious is going on now but it could. Easily. With just a software update.

Until I find the camera and attach lightdims (blackout ones) my set isn't connected to the net.
