My monthly bill is $191 outside of football season. Add an extra $50 to that during football season for NFL Sunday Ticket.

There's a few members here that don't pay anything

If true, hopefully those members have disclosed that fact in their signature line.

They shouldn't have to.

It's DirecTV policy that we put that disclaimer in any public forum we post in :)

Right now here's what I got:

Basic Choice $14.99
International $14.99
HD $10
DVR $8
Showtime 6 months free
Starz 6 months free
HD Extra Pack 3 months free

Less:
$10 off package
$8 off DVR

Subtotal: $30.00 per month

Referral $10 off
2nd refer $10 off

Final total: $10 per month

If I add my 2nd owned box (HR21P), then it goes up $6 or $9 (with whole home).

I also have a $300 credit balance on my account from equipment/retention,
should last me for almost a year of free service after the referrals end.

FYI, I only watch the local channels since I don't get antenna reception.

Anyone paying similar or better? I can't believe that some people pay $150 to $300 for TV service.

What is the "Basic Choice" Plan? Lowest I can find is the Family Pack, but if I could just get locals I would be HAPPY!

Family Pack $29.99
HD: $10
DVR: $8

Referral Credit: -$10.00

Basic choice is an English add-on that is only available if you have an international base package. Family is the lowest english base package DirecTV offers.

I watch the same channels I did back then. I remember when HBO used to send you a pocket TV guide with all the movies showing that month. It was faster to read over to see what you wanted to watch compared to what we have now

MTV had commercials from the beginning (well, okay, 10 minutes after they started broadcasting in 1981): here's an article describing their first hour of programming, with YouTube clips.
