Hi guys long time since I posted here but got a couple of questions; first does anybody knows if or when  we get back WSEE or another CBS station(we're without the network since October 2013) and second when the transition to the U.S market be completed or in other wirds when could we get new channels. Thanks in anticipation

Luis,

You are asking for crystal ball answers; you won't know for sure what is coming until Directv Marketing begins advertising the changes in the Puerto Rico market.

The CBS affiliate WSEE (SD only) has been in *TEST status on the G3C sat since it was taken down in the fall of 2013.   WSEE is not even in *TEST status on the Domestic satellites.  The problems are obviously not technical, but financial,  legal or political.  That makes the resolution very, very hazy.  Happily, you do  have FOX, ABC and NBC in HD from the domestic satellites.

While the LatinAm community is waiting for the IS30 and IS31 satellites to provide that leap in channel capacity, Puerto Rico is looking to D14 to provide the capacity that will enable them to get on the bandwagon.

But your CBS problem is intriguing.  I will try to do some research...

since Jimmy Long nuked my other post for being too long I guess I'll repost it but be shorter

from northpine.com

With increased FCC scrutiny of deals that allow one TV station to run another, Gray TV is trying a different method to add major network affiliations in central Nebraska and western North Dakota: It's moving the affiliations to stations it already owns.

Meanwhile, in North Dakota, current FOX affiliates KNDX/26 (Bismarck) and KXND/24 (Minot) have announced that beginning Friday, the FOX lineup will move to KFYR/5.2 (Bismarck), KMOT/10.2 (Minot), KQCD/7.2 (Dickinson), and KUMV/8.2 (Williston). FOX will continue to be seen on KNDX-LD/38 (Dickinson) and KXND-LP/38 (Williston), which Gray bought from Prime Cities Broadcasting for $500,000.

They already did this in Nebraska too. They put NBC on KSNB 4 (moving My Network to the -2) and simulcast on co-owned CBS 10/11 (KGIN/KOLN) -2

Directv I think moved NBC from 5 to 4 and put MyNetwork on 5

Jeff,

I am sorry your post was removed; I thought it was very informative and a worthwhile insight to ongoing station and FCC manipulations.

Besides, I always enjoy hearing what Gray is up to.  They used to own WALB and The Albany Herald.  They have since sold both off, but now own the CBS/The CW/MNTV affiliate, and continue to have Gray Television's adminstrative office located in Albany.  It makes sense given that the founder, James H. Gray started the company here, and is a former mayor of Albany.  He's also responsible for the auditorium that now features his name (James H. Gray Civic Center).

Gray is being inventive by getting around the FCC rules. What suffers is the fact that they are limiting the possibilities of subchannels. I mean in Grand Island, NE there are now 3 stations total. A CBS/NBC, ABC/FOX and PBS. If you REALLY want to add the 4th (if you have a big VHF Low antenna) you can get the NBC/My that is the original station (channel 4)

When they do the same thing in Fargo (move CBS to the NBC subchannel) there goes one more option for a subchannel

While I like some of the programming on MeTV, I have little interest in what I've seen of sub-channels.  My local NBC (1080i) affiliate offers an ABC sub-channel (720p OTA, 1080i via cable/sat), and my CBS (1080i) affiliate offers a My (480i) and The CW affiliate (720p OTA).

Gray shouldn't be able to get around the rules, but it doesn't affect me much.  My only complaint with Gray is that WSWG (CBS/MyN/The CW), the de facto CBS/CW affiliates for Albany doesn't have a strong enough broadcast signal to reach the City of Albany.

Doctor J Comments for the 6/21/2014 Data:

The DJBC (Doctor J Broadcast Center) is returning to life!  We have an interim 6/21/14 TPN Map just posted tonight.  We hope to be back on schedule with a full TPN Map update on Wednesday, 6/25.  This interim TPN Map does not have updated data for 95W; that should be available on Wednesday's update.

Some quick observations from Doctor J,

We have a station re-naming in the Minot DMA

HD Locals for Rockford, IL have all migrated from TPN 6 to TPN 1 of SW2 @99W

All the details on Wednesday.

Hi. Will the update scheduled for Wednesday contain any new information in the CONUS page of the TPN spreadsheet? I recently printed out the entire CONUS list from the 6-11 update and would hate to have to print it all out again.. Thanks

jersey...,

Until we actually process the fresh weekly data, we have no idea in advance of what "new" channel information has been added or changed.

But save your printer -- all you need is to keep an eye on the "Doctor J Comments..." posts each week.  We do our best to flag for you all the changes of significance from week to week, both CONUS and LIL.  We also note changes in TEST channels and other channel types that are tracked in the 'Hybrid' tab.

The CONUS records in particular tend to be stable and somewhat static, you should not need to produce more printer paper.

The Neighboring Locals Lookup Tool at Directv shows that some of the Chattanooga stations are available in portions of the Atlanta DMA.

Hi. I noticed that The Hope Channel on 368 will be changing signals on 7/16. Judging by the info message on 368-1 I assume it will be changing to an HD signal. Does anyone have the new Satellite/Transponder information for this station? Also, will it still be located on 368? Thanks...

Nah ... I'm pretty sure no HD;

It just appears to be leaving 119 MPEG-2 SD and going MPEG-4 SD on D12 (or 103ca, judging from the instruction to check the test channels 9508/9 for receivers which can no longer tune to it after the transition).

Jewish Life TV did the same thing leaving 119 a while earlier.

I think except for the "NOW" infomercial channel, this will do it for English programming TV channels on 119's CONUS beam, making DIRECTV-7S' national programming solely for mostly Spanish and some Chinese.

Yep, it does;

I stand corrected on the "all Spanish" claim earlier :)

I see there are quite a few SonicTap music channels coming in on the 119 orbital from the Domestic TPN Map.  Judging by their names, they don't seem to be Spanish or Latino in nature.  (See channels 9560 to 9569 and 9572 to 9574 for example).  Is there any way to see what packages these are available in?

I'm curious if there is some advantage to your average non-Spanish speaking customer for having 110 or 119.  For example, 10+ additional music channels at no charge, etc.

Not sure if its really a particular package that matters for those additional ST channels on 119 as it is just having the right LNBF installed for receiving them.

The SD Phase III oval (or even an ancient Phase II Para Todos) triple sat. dish has it naturally.

For the Slimlines, by having a SL-5 LNBF installed.

110 carries SD channels only for Puerto Rico right now.
