The Neighboring Locals Lookup Tool at Directv shows that some of the Chattanooga stations are available in portions of the Atlanta DMA.

Such listings are always by County and then by Zip Code within that county.  These channels are also referred to as "Significantly Viewed Channels"

Hi. I noticed that The Hope Channel on 368 will be changing signals on 7/16. Judging by the info message on 368-1 I assume it will be changing to an HD signal. Does anyone have the new Satellite/Transponder information for this station? Also, will it still be located on 368? Thanks...

Nah ... I'm pretty sure no HD;

It just appears to be leaving 119 MPEG-2 SD and going MPEG-4 SD on D12 (or 103ca, judging from the instruction to check the test channels 9508/9 for receivers which can no longer tune to it after the transition).

Jewish Life TV did the same thing leaving 119 a while earlier.

I think except for the "NOW" infomercial channel, this will do it for English programming TV channels on 119's CONUS beam, making DIRECTV-7S' national programming solely for mostly Spanish and some Chinese.

I see there are quite a few SonicTap music channels coming in on the 119 orbital from the Domestic TPN Map.  Judging by their names, they don't seem to be Spanish or Latino in nature.  (See channels 9560 to 9569 and 9572 to 9574 for example).  Is there any way to see what packages these are available in?

I'm curious if there is some advantage to your average non-Spanish speaking customer for having 110 or 119.  For example, 10+ additional music channels at no charge, etc.

Not sure if its really a particular package that matters for those additional ST channels on 119 as it is just having the right LNBF installed for receiving them.

The SD Phase III oval (or even an ancient Phase II Para Todos) triple sat. dish has it naturally.

For the Slimlines, by having a SL-5 LNBF installed.

110 carries SD channels only for Puerto Rico right now.

Some of us have speculated about what will happen with 95 and 119 once Directv adds all the new capacity coming online with 99 Ka hi and RDBS from 99 and 103. I've seen suggestions that 119 might become the new "international" satellite, but I wondered if Directv might consider not replacing that satellite at all. They'd have so much capacity that the 11 puny transponders from 119 might not justify the cost of building/launching a replacement for D7S later this decade - assuming they didn't want to hold onto the spot just to keep Dish from having it! However, thinking about these moves of English content from 119 I'm starting to come around to the view that 119 will become the international satellite. This might even happen sooner than we think.

Once D14 launches, Directv could move all content off 119 that isn't part of a foreign language package, and then they could replicate everything on 95 onto 119, which could easily fit using MPEG4. Suddenly 119 is the "international" satellite for new installs, and 99/101/103 have all CONUS/English content. Once they can install a SL5 for all the international package customers, 95 is no longer needed. Everyone gets a SL3, unless they subscribe to international programming which triggers the order for SL5 (or whatever replaces SL3/SL5 that's able to receive RDBS)

There are some spotbeams on 119, but once D14 is operational they will be moved to 99.

I am receiving 10 out of 17 total SonicTap channels on the 119° with the XTRA base package. I am not receiving the following music channels:

  • 815/9567 SonicTap: Holidays & Happenings
  • 865/9574 SonicTap: Piano
  • 873 SonicTap: Regional Mexican
  • 877 SonicTap: Carnaval Brasileiro
  • 881/9569 SonicTap: Italian Bistro Blend
  • 882/9573 SonicTap: Italian Contemporary
  • 884/9560 SonicTap: Tranquility

Interesting speculation here, but the last part of course would involve the need to upgrade a lot of MPEG-2/SD only equipment for subs in the markets which receive their SD locals from 119.

Anyone else not getting the 119 satellite selection for the LIL map to show in any of the MS Excel drop down boxes when the filter function is selected after editing is enabled for the latest domestic TPN map release?

EDIT: after some more investigation it seems the new blank lines of cells now used to separate the different local markets disrupts the filtering function in MS Excel causing it to list filtering options in the drop-down boxes for only one market entry at a time on the map and not all at once.

A convenient display idea by Gary mind you, to separate the local markets this way, but causes a problem trying to apply Excel's filter to all entries at once like when all the entries were contiguous.

I didn't say it would happen overnight, but Directv has to start somewhere if they're going to migrate SD subscribers to HD. They're finally taking the first step, halting new SD installs. Given that there's about 20% subscriber churn each year, that should equate to dropping the number of SD only subscribers by about 20% a year without doing anything to help (assuming the churn is similar between SD only and HD subscribers)

The largest markets are mostly on 101, and they could perhaps move things around a bit to place the markets with the fewest SD only subscribers on 119. That would make these migrations easier to accomplish. Put a message up on the 119 LiLs saying that if they're watching this they may need an equipment upgrade to continue service on this channel, please call this number to see if that is needed and schedule the free upgrade, otherwise you may lose service for this channel on x/x/xx.

I ran into the same issue trying to do a data sort on the columns using OpenOffice. Pretty sure I've been able to do this before on the LiL tab, and do it often on the CONUS tab and it works perfectly. My sort only affects the first market, just like the filters you're trying to apply in Excel.

Sorry you folks are running into problems with my 'improvements'.  That same 'improvement' is in the OTA tab.  It makes the data much easier to read, but more difficult for those of you who want to manipulate the data.   That is the risk I took.

Here is the easy fix:

o  Click on the top-left box on the page displayed.  That's the little box to the left of the "A" column and above  the "1" row.  Your entire screen will turn blue (probably blue) to indicate you have selected the entire sheet.

o  While the screen is selected, click on "Sort" in the ribbon above.  In the case of the LIL tab, sorting by "LIL_MARKET" (column I)  is probably the easiest.

With that, you are back in business.  All the blank rows will have gone to the bottom of the stack, leaving you nice, clean, contiguous rows of data to crunch and grind !

Another recent  'improvement' has added explanatory text to the "Market" column on the CONUS sheet.  There is currently a great deal of interest in Spanish channels.

One last thing to mention - notice at the bottom of the LIL sheet are a couple of channels with ugly, full-caps "ERROR  INVALID" notations.  The notations are mine, Red Flags for problems found in processing.  These kinds of errors periodically show up; instead of just deleting them, my thought is to let them show.  They are apparently just typo errors; they disappear within a week or so.  As with the case at hand, these errors provide illogical data, such as a TPN 998 or a TPN which does not exist in the Network shown.

....  Is there any way to see what packages these are available in?

Just go to the Directv Website, to the Header "Packages"   HERE

The Channels are usually in numeric sequence.  You can quickly tell what channels comprise what packages.
