so the dvr fee for dish is 10 bucks and its 15 bucks for directv unless your a new sub then its 13 until your 2 year committment is up then it goes to 15? either way its more. im not comparing either to cable because i dont consider cable a viable option at all. i will may just go back to dish after my 2 years we will see what happens with next years increases.

Not quite. The DVR fee for DISH is $7 (per account) or $10 for the advanced DVRs (922 or Hopper, per account). The new customer DVR fee for DirecTV is $10 (per account) or $25 for Genie (per account - which includes the $10 advanced receiver HD fee). Customers who signed up BEFORE the price increase will get a $2 credit for their first year (making the DVR fee $8 or Genie's fee $23 - which is what they agreed to when they signed up). But new customers pay the new fees.

Other fees and discounts may apply. (For example, the "$10 discount on Advanced Receiver Service for 24 months" credit currently applies. That would make the fee for a new subscriber signing up today and getting Genie $15 per month.)

im comparing a hopper to a genie. i think the dvr is the greatest advance to happen to small dish satellite tv even greater than hd. its too bad its getting to expensive for some of us. im happy that many of you can absorb the new cost without any sweat but for some of us that isnt possible without downgrading service either an extra tv or a programming package i can see a day where i may have to cancel dvr service all together. i may have to switch back to dish in 2 years if directv still charges for hd or does not extend my 10 credit for hd beyond the 2 year credit they gave me when i signed up because i will not pay 10 bucks for hd i just dont feel its worth that much i dont see that big a difference between the non hd channels and dish doesnt charge for it or are you gonna tell me they do since you tried to tell me dish was charging me 6 bucks for my 2nd room dvr when i was paying 7 for it the past 2 years.

Not possible if your world is Hopper vs Genie. If you don't want to pay DVR fees you will have to not have a DVR. Both the Hopper and Genie are advanced DVRs.

i may have to switch back to dish in 2 years if directv still charges for hd or does not extend my 10 credit for hd beyond the 2 year credit they gave me when i signed up because i will not pay 10 bucks for hd i just dont feel its worth that much i dont see that big a difference between the non hd channels and dish doesnt charge for it or are you gonna tell me they do since you tried to tell me dish was charging me 6 bucks for my 2nd room dvr when i was paying 7 for it the past 2 years.

The trouble was that you kept referring to it as a DVR fee. And you referred to it in a way that made it sound like a fee that DirecTV raised and DISH did not.

The actual DVR fee went up on both providers. The actual Additional TV fee did not go up on either provider. Using the correct terms for what you are complaining about is helpful.

If you don't want any extra fees then you should switch to cable/Windows Mediacenter if it's available in your area.

when i had dish i was paying an advance dvr fee for 2 rooms 10 for the main tv and 7 for the 2nd tv you said it was 6 and then went up to 7 i only said it was always 7 or at least was 7 for the past 2 years i had dish network.
like anyone there is a limit to what i will pay for a particular service in this case the dvr fee. of course i may also need to look into going to their lesser dvr that carries a lesser monthly fee to save money, again some of us are not in a position to throw money around everytime a provider says give us more. many of us have to cut back. im sorry that offends many of you........

Here is what you said:

did dish raise their dvr fee's?

was already $7 for additonal rooms......
Answer was no.

You said nothing about "advanced DVR fee" ... and (as has been explained too much) the DVR fee went up.
The $7 you were paying was not a DVR fee.

Thank you for finally telling the full story ... but don't blame others when you were giving misleading information. It weakens your argument.

These fees have finally pushed me over the edge to do something I have pondered in the last few years, suspending service for the summer. Is 6 months still the maximum amount of time you can suspend?

Generally yes, though it can go longer on a case by case basis. Any contract is frozen as well, timed credits do not.

Sometimes being persistent works wonders, everytime I call to pretend to cancel or mention I pay too much and I want to switch, they give me credits, Just one call alone I got 12 months HD service free and DVR service free, plus whole home waived for 6 months, then the second $5 programming credit. Now I have my price reduced like a new customer discount. But then again I do the same with comcast with their HSI promotions discounts for 6 months.

apparently Directv hasnt updated prices. it shows my total choice extra classic at 68.99. just got the bill for 71.99.

It says there are only 2 channels diffence in choice extra and choice extra classic. does anyone know what they are?

plus at top it says 207+ digital channels and then lower it says 185 channels.

Well just called Directv to talk about the fee's.

The RSN fee they dropped for me.
I dropped Cinemax,Starz and Showtime Package.

Brings my Monthy total down to $144 including taxes Down from $177.

Still not what I'd call a bargin, But better.

They offerered 8 payments of $21 on NFL ST(not Max) I declined!
