Plus cooking and encore action.

Ah. Thanks.

IFC and H2 were my last two real wants. Any other HD D* adds from now on is just a bonus. :D

Reelz HD is probably a good possibility for Q3 since we already have the HD VOD. (LMN, TV Land, H2 (testing), Cooking Channel (testing) launched HD VOD content before the linear HD was added)

+1 for ReelzHD

Kevin

My top 5 wishlist: 1) Free MRV HR to HR 2) Fix Channels I Receive so that it is accurate 3) > 50 SeriesLink 4) Usage of both internal and external drives concurrently 5) Support for other video providers as DoD (i.e. Hulu, CBS)

DirecTV HR21-200, 2008 (DirecTV anniversary gift)
DirecTV HR20-100 (2TB eSATA), 2007
DirecTV since 1995

Then nothing I or anyone else can say is going to change your mind because you already have it made up...right? :(

Like I said, there is more HD coming later this year, likely in Q3 and if the logic were to hold, why wouldn't D* just hold off and launch it in January of 2014...put off the cost of launching it to next year and time it as you are suggesting? :whatdidid

The reality is that it takes a long time to create the bandwidth, fund it, make sure there are channels that can be launched (legal, etc). It seems to me if you are going to down that line of thinking, it is turned upside down when HD is launched not near a price increase. My two cents. Furthermore, would D* have been smarter to launch them in late December, prior to the pricing notifications going out? The reality is that they are independent of one another.

Satelliteracer, reading your post, is it fair to say there isn't a need to create a Q2 HD anticipation thread? And, if I may, another question: Nowadays, when negotiating the channel contracts, are the content providers still expecting the cable/satellite/telco providers to pay extra to carry the same channel in HD? I'd guess that, by now, the content providers are actually expecting extra for the "watch anywhere" type of service.

Thanks for keeping us as much up to date as possible and keep on making sure "more HD is coming" goes on and on and on! :D

The only channels I see on my wishlist for HD are my local CW station, and GSN. Other than that, Im not sure what else did could put in HD that could make me happy as all my channels are in HD.

If the one that almost didn't make it was Encore, then smatvee.com looks like it was dead on.

what does "soon" mean? instead of guessing, i wish direcTV would just like add 2 HD Channels a month, it will probably be another 3-6 months before we see more HD added, basis on the track record

Well, they can't just add them at some arbitrary pace. It happens as they come to terms for retransmission. They also have to consider their own capacity limitations. It's not that simple.

Really can't. They do not unilaterally decide when channels go on the air. A lot is under their control but just as much, if not more, is not. They have to make a deal for price and content rights that gets started on a specific date. All that has to be in agreement with both parties. They have to get the technical side up and that means they have to schedule it and, perhaps, acquire more hardware. But there is technical on the other side, too, as the channel has to be made available. Testing is another, smaller, variable, but with all these variables adding up, the channels come when they come.

But, anyway, if they added 2 per month, the 8 they are adding in two weeks would be 4 months worth. So, 3-6 months is not off your mark.
