I know what you mean, I am cheap too. Now that I have a dvr, I am in the "what did I do without it" group.

It's now a principle thing. I'm sick of being dinged for every extra receiver that I own. It used to be $5.00 per receiver, now it's $7.00. For 4 receivers, that's an extra $6.00 per month, in the last two years. Same thing for DVR service. It was $5.00 and now $7.00. Enough of being gouged with service fee increases.

Gouged? GOUGED?? Have you figured out the annual percentage increase that represents? I haven't, but pretty sure it's not out of line with just about any service price increase over the same time span.

So my directv app says that H2 (channel 271) is in HD but I don't see it in HD in my guide. Is this a typo or foreshadowing?

There wasn't any HD 20 years ago. The first public HD broadcast in the U.S. occured on 23 July 1996.

I'm sorry, but at the prices we are paying DTV, you think ALL of their channels would be HD. This should not be an issue at all! And some reply's say Thanks? A friend of mine has TWC, and ALL the major channels are in HD.

I agree, I understand that package prices increase because prices on content rights go up but why increase lease fees on equipment, it's the same equipment and no extra cost to D.

Define "major channels" please.

It's kind of difficult to have all channels in HD when many of them are still broadcasting in SD only.

I also dislike the increasing equipment fees, but I think that this will be the public rationale for it:

1. "We (D*) keep upgrading the software - and our programmers and their development environments aren't free. So even if you have the same equipment, you get more value from it." (Not sure how this holds for non-DVR receivers)
2. "We have increasing internal costs that have nothing to do with the content providers - infrastructure improvements, labor costs, etc.. While the annual package cost increase defrays some/all of the increased content cost it doesn't cover our other expenses."

Again, don't mistake me - I dislike the increasing equipment costs and as such am strongly considering canceling 2 DVRs (leaving me with 1 DVR and no receivers) and replacing them with Roku HD boxes. One time cost of $60 each.

Kevin

My top 5 wishlist: 1) Free MRV HR to HR 2) Fix Channels I Receive so that it is accurate 3) > 50 SeriesLink 4) Usage of both internal and external drives concurrently 5) Support for other video providers as DoD (i.e. Hulu, CBS)

It's not the same equipment in many cases, and in most cases for users with HD not the same as a few years ago.

And costs for installing and maintaining equipment have risen, and will rise. How many calls per day with questions on DVRs do you think are handled? I bet many thousands. The CSRs get paid to respond to these, which I'd lump into "equipment costs" for most accounting purposes.
