You do need a special dish in the Jersey Shore area. They tried adding the Spanish package for me (and I don't speak Spanish!) but they said I would need a dish upgrade.

Sandra

Areas do not matter. DirecTV is the same everywhere. You must have a 3LNB dish only. I wouldn't call it an "upgrade" or a "special" dish. It is just one of many options.

Do you even seen the Gol channel in your guide? [Not that CSRs are ever wrong, but they could be. :) ]

Since it costs 2.4¢ to produce a penny, my 2¢ worth is really 4.8¢ worth.  That 4.8¢ is my own and not the 4.8¢ of DIRECTV, Dish, or anyone else for that matter.

I hope it doesn't go another 6 months either, but my statement was in reference to the fact that we have been told more is to come in the 3Q. If we get more prior to that, that's a cherry on top.

To be honest though, outside of The CW DNS feeds, there's nothing I'm in any rush to get in HD, and since I'm not expecting them anytime soon, it really doesn't matter to me when the next expansion is (at this time)... just that they keep coming. :)

I would hope that FUSE HD and WE HD come fairly quickly after IFC HD is on the system. My rational is because the owner, AMC NETWORKS usually bundles AMC HD, IFC HD, WE HD and FUSE HD as a package. Having 2 out of the 4 tells me that at least some kind of deal was done, or at least people at DIRECTV were talking to AMC NETWORKS.

I found this on my DirecTV recent activity.

01/24/2013 XXXXXXXXXXXX ENCORE Themes HD - Charge $0.00

I guess they expected Encore action to launch last week. Atleast I known my access cards have authorization when launched.

It would be interesting to see the % of new DirecTV customers that are signing up and getting DVRs, vs those choosing regular receivers.

While DIRECTV offers details about their Latin American hardware configuration statistics, in the US, they glob all DVRs and HD receivers together. That number for the last reported quarter (2012 Q3) was 90% Advanced Products. You would have to somehow ferret out how many of SD DVRs there were but in a decidedly Applesque move, they've not been in the habit of giving the information up.

Too often we enjoy the comfort of opinion without the discomfort of thought. -- JFK

I haven't checked anything On Demand in over a week. Anything new there?

(Last one was Sportsman Channel having some HD content.)

Nope, I checked them all yesterday evening. Sportsman Channel has around 12 programs in HD now, last time I checked there was around 25 (Others most likely expired).

I received it on 1/19.

Is anyone else that subscribes to Starz/Encore Package seeing this line item under Recent Activity? I didn't add/remove anything nor did I make any changes.

Perhaps it has something to do with the preparation/authorization for Encore Action HD?

It's nothing, rather an authorization code to prepare for the Encore HD creation.

I'd like to see FMCHD and REELZHD.

Reelz HD is probably a good possibility for Q3 since we already have the HD VOD. (LMN, TV Land, H2, Cooking Channel launched HD VOD content before the linear HD was added)

The other Viacom owned ones (LOGO HD & MTV2 HD) that already have HD VOD are also good possibilities for Q3; since TeenNick and VH1 Classic offer content in HD VOD we could possibly see Viacom launch there linear HD channels later this year.

DirecTV & Starz Entertainment renewed distribution rights in April 2012, in the PR it stated DirecTV was enabled to launch MoviePlex, IndiePlex & RetroPlex and the related MOVIEPLEX ON DEMAND and MOVIEPLEX ONLINE service on DIRECTV Everywhere. Thus far they have added the authentication with Starz & Encore Play. Link to Press Release. These are yet even more possibilities that we could see.

Ah. Thanks.

IFC and H2 were my last two real wants. Any other HD D* adds from now on is just a bonus. :D

Then nothing I or anyone else can say is going to change your mind because you already have it made up...right? :(

Like I said, there is more HD coming later this year, likely in Q3 and if the logic were to hold, why wouldn't D* just hold off and launch it in January of 2014...put off the cost of launching it to next year and time it as you are suggesting? :whatdidid

The reality is that it takes a long time to create the bandwidth, fund it, make sure there are channels that can be launched (legal, etc). It seems to me if you are going to down that line of thinking, it is turned upside down when HD is launched not near a price increase. My two cents. Furthermore, would D* have been smarter to launch them in late December, prior to the pricing notifications going out? The reality is that they are independent of one another.

Satelliteracer, reading your post, is it fair to say there isn't a need to create a Q2 HD anticipation thread? And, if I may, another question: Nowadays, when negotiating the channel contracts, are the content providers still expecting the cable/satellite/telco providers to pay extra to carry the same channel in HD? I'd guess that, by now, the content providers are actually expecting extra for the "watch anywhere" type of service.

Thanks for keeping us as much up to date as possible and keep on making sure "more HD is coming" goes on and on and on! :D
