I still am holding out hope that come 9/1/2013 we see the Pac 12 network added.

After that the channels I'd want to see in HD are pretty small:
The Hub
Universal Sports.

Yes. I know. Hence my post. It is a new channel. It did not exist in their system before. It does not matter that it is an HD version of another channel. These are new channels, in new slots.

You are asking for completely new channels to be added to your manually configured, custom favorites list.

Also, why would you ever want both versions in you favorites list? When would you watch the SD version if the HD version is available. Even on an old TV the HD version should look better.

People who don't want to watch older shows stretched and distorted or cropped like Turner and Discovery do with their HD feeds.

Just scrolled thru my Favorites Guide of 125 channels and only 5 not in HD: STYLE, TVGN, VH1C, CSP1, CSP2. And that's not stuff I record, just channels in the Favorites Guide. Of those 5, have watched a few shows on VH1C lately, but probably haven't touched the other 4 maybe once/twice a year for something interesting for a few minutes.

As of today, I have 36 SD NATIONAL* channels in my Favorites list... 9/10 of which do not have HD channels available for DirecTV to possibly carry, and 5 which are West Coast feeds (four of which has HD feeds on DirecTV).

* I did not count my two local SD channels.

Thank you DirecTV. The rate increase next month will not feel as bad.

I'd be happy with the remaining SD channels simply put up in Mpeg 4, with a healthy bitrate and widescreen if available. They could put them all up and have room to spare.

I don't know. Just one DVR kept the SD versions in (which I of course removed)... And an H24 removed the SD versions and left it looking like those channels were completely removed.

I edited the favorites on both but only sent an error report from the H24. I prolly should of sent one from the HR24 as well so DirecTV could compare them. Whatever the intended behavior is, it's not consistent. Both receivers are on the same software version.

Technically, the bug is actually happening on your HR24 as it is not supposed to show the SD version of the channel anymore.

Or it is a program you don't care about PQ and have disk space issues, you pick the SD version.

It's not an unaffiliated channel. It is an upgraded version of the same channel...

But as far as the receiver is concerned, they are separate channels. This has been discussed before, but the situation is similar to when the OTA virtual channels changed their real broadcast frequency. As far as the user is concerned, it is still the same channel, but the hardware sees them as two different frequencies. When the OTA HD channels changed broadcast frequencies, you had to rescan to continue to be able to receive them. With the DirecTV receiver, if you have recordings set up or if you use custom guides, then you have to manually replace the SD channel with the HD channel. The user thinks they are the same channel, but the hardware knows that they are different.

If D* added a customization function to the "Edit Favorite Channels List" to allow you a y/n on "Automatically add new channels" it would then be a fairly trivial amount of logic to deal with this. But as it stands, yes, better to not alter my personal favorites list.

Kevin

My top 5 wishlist: 1) Free MRV HR to HR 2) Fix Channels I Receive so that it is accurate 3) > 50 SeriesLink 4) Usage of both internal and external drives concurrently 5) Support for other video providers as DoD (i.e. Hulu, CBS)

We've been down that road. It was super annoying when new channels were automatically added. Shopping channels popped up. Redefined channels popped up (because they were put in as new). They turn on the NFL channels and you don't have Sunday Ticket...they pop up every year.

It is not an easy issue.

Maybe the solution is simple. If you tune to an SD channel that has had an HD channel added recently, you get a notice telling you of such.

I have no heart burn with having to redo things when this happens. It is not that often and it is worth it. The real issue that I can see that people are raising is the notification portion.

anything else for me would be gravy. however, i wouldn't mind pac-12, universial sports, style and military channels in hd.

all of my priorities have been added!

think its a safe bet to anticipate the remaining channels that need the HD Flip already on D* like FOXM, Bloomberg,Fuse..etc

than that of like Epix , MAV & other channels that aren't even on the system??

What I do is add the channel via the channel banner info and highlight favorites, then just add the channel to your custom favorites list.
