I have a bunch of auto-records setup including one for "Agatha Christie". It caught some stuff on Cinemoi that my wife enjoyed (even in SD).

I took a peek at Cinemoi the other day, and it said it was 720. It looked like very HQ SD or somewhat poor HD.... So, I dunno what it broadcasts.

16:9 SD

I haven't watched it much, but I haven't seen anything in full screen yet.

16:9 SD

I don't think it is 16:9 but it is HD. My guide comes up narrow on cinemoi. Maybe you are thinking of Baby First. That is 16:9 SD and my guide comes up full screen on it (I'm using original format.)

I'm not aware any MPEG-2 SD channels (Ku band) that are 16:9 on DIRECTV. They are all 4:3 I think.

Cinemoi (MPEG-2 SD/Ku band) is always a 16:9 image, but letter-boxed into 4:3.

Baby First is 16:9 SD, but its MPEG-4 on Ka band.

Cinemoi broadcasts in 16:9 SD, it just isn't being presented that way by DirecTV. They aren't capable of HD yet.

Okay. The clarification helps.

But in the context of what we get on DirecTV, it is 4:3. Remember, this is a DirecTV forum. ;)

It's very possible... but it's an odd occurence that two (I'm assuming unrelated) cablecos list Chiller HD in their lineup...

Link to the links of two cablecos

They may list it that way, but unless NBC-Universal is sending it to them, and only them, via terrestial feed, they are just upconverting the SD feed from AMC-11 and calling it "Chiller HD."

After looking through all the North American satellites on Lyngsat I can find no "Chiller HD" anywhere.

Wasn't there several instances of DirecTV getting channels prior to people knowing they were available?

I'm extremely open to the idea of this channel not existing and this being a mistake, but I'm not convinced either way....

Yes, back when Sci Fi launched in HD on DIRECTV a number of folks swore up and down, including a mod on the Dish side of the house, that it didn't exist.

Also don't see Chiller HD on this page at NBC Universal, https://www.nbcunetworks.com/node/881

CBC Newsworld was never available in the USA, what we had was Newsworld International, which was purchased by Al Gore to create Current in 2005. Outside of The National and some of CBC's other newscasts the majority of the channel was made up of original content and output from other international broadcasters like ITN, Deutsche Welle and NHK. CBC Newsworld has since rebranded to CBC News Network and I'm not sure if they can be offered in the USA unless they launch an alternate feed due to the rights to some of the documentaries they now air in the evenings.

On 911 Dish put CBC Newsworld on for few days for a different view. They put it on ch: 222 which was owned by Barry Diller.

Lyngsat is user contributed data, it is in no way a definitive source and has some outdated information, especially in the current post 4DTV era when it comes to newly launched channels where the network didn't post the tech info yet. If it does exist, it's a fairly new launch and the NBC U affiliate site isn't exactly on top of things, their CSN section still has the old pre-NBC logos, is missing CSN Houston and still says MTN exists.

At the time HSN and Newsworld International were still sister channels. I think it was shortly after their other sister stations Trio, USA and SciFi were sold to NBC. That afternoon many channels were simulcasting the news from sister channels. (MTV and VH1 were airing CBS News, ESPN was showing ABC News, etc) What you saw was HSN simulcasting Newsworld International which was carrying CBC's coverage.

CSN Chicago is not on that list as well.

There is also a possibility that it is a land-based feed. Universal Sports is available in HD for instance, and several smaller providers carry it. But as far as I know, they only have a internet based feed. Which isn't a real problem if your bandwidth is enough.
[Disclaimer] The definition of "soon" is based solely on DirecTV's interpretation of the word, and all similarities with dictionary definitions of the word "soon" are purely coincidental and should not be interpreted as a time frame that will come to pass within a reasonable amount of time.

I am the Stig.

If you enter in Newport, WA zip code (99156) and select Concept Communications Corp. (the 1st link on AVSForum you linked to above) on Chiller's official website channel finder it lists it as being available in HD.

Exciting News!
Chiller is available in your area on Concept Communications Corp Channel 241 and 149(HD).

To try to get more official confirmation I have also sent NBCUniversal an email, although it wouldn't surprise me if they do not respond.

Nor should you be surprised. And yet, I wouldn't be surprised if they do. I've had pretty good luck at just asking for information. . . .

One channel I don't recall seeing on this thread is CNN International. I used to have that when I was on Time Warner Cable - only SD, but it may be in HD by now. This channel appealed to me as it wasn't overloaded with all the bells and whistles of CNN itself. If you are interested in world news, including US news, this was a nice alternative. When news broke overseas, it was great to have this option to keep watching rather than have CNN itself break away. CNN does use the International feed sometimes when they don't have the capability to cover something themselves. Also, Hala Gorani, the daytime anchor is nice on the eyes.
