I know some of you have been asking for Al Jazeera to be shown on D*. It has been announced that it is buying it way in to a larger share by purchasing Current TV.

Have you ever watched a full newscast from Al Jazeera English? It is kind of slower compared to the fast paced news of the USA but it does present a lot of stories and coverage you don't see on other channels. They also don't report about things like Kim Kardashian and Kanye having a baby or a photographer being struck by a car after trying to take a picture of Bieber's car.

Yup - more than once. Also have seen Current TV multiple programs.

No thanks for a long but distinguished list of reasons.

Way to keep an open mind.

The channel provides the Arab equivalent of BBC News with its depth of covering international stories. That's something that's clearly lacking in this country where the network news and cable news channels are more interested in personalities and ratings.

At least you're not basing it off of what others say about it without watching it for yourself.

Current on the otherhand hasn't been able to keep a show around for more than two years. Newsworld International was so much better.

Whats wrong with Al Jazeera "English"? It would have more compelling content than.... than.... whats the name of the "opinion" channel that nobody watches? Free Speech TV?

DirecTV is part owner of Current. They may not have to carry it , depending on the contract that they agree to. It's all about money, and the Kuwaiti govt has it because of their oil wells.

BBC is tolerable.

The issue with all "foreign"- based news reporting is that they all have their own agendas and slants to the news. That's to be expected. But then again, we call choose if we want to watch it.

If you think the mainstream media is liberal in America, wait until you get a load of Al-Jazeera.

Please. Just because someone doesn't see life from your perspective, that doesn't mean that they are closed minded. Many have watched both Current TV and Al Jazeera English and haven't liked or agreed with these perspectives.

It's just funny how conservatives get labeled as "closed minded" for having a differing perspective, but some liberals who refuse to consider conservative viewpoints are not labeled the same.

Al Jazeera is owned by Qatar. Kuwait has nothing to do with it.

It is good to have views from other's, and from other countries. I would welcome this channel and others such as BBC World, CNN International, Euronews, NHK World, etc. Unfortunately DirecTV has fallen way behind in the area of International news channels while cable has realized that we are a very diverse society who like to know views from ouside the U.S.

I'd watch, but only if it was in HD. It all comes down to HD. No HD, it might as well not be on...

For instance, I'd love to watch BBC World News in HD on my local PBS, but it is in SD so it is a pass. In any event, the more news and worldly perspective we are offered - the more intelligently we can approach any issue. As a big plus, actual reporting would be nice for a change.

I've watched it on Roku. Found it very detailed and less biased than most of the news stations already available on DirecTV.

So, I guess Current's only platform is DirecTV. Hate when general topics always end up in the DirecTV section of the site.

I guess posting this same out-of-touch-with-reality post now in 2 different threads made things better.

The original poster chose where to post his thread.

Nothing stops someone from posting a Dish counterpart version to discuss is as part of that carrier's offering.

Then create a thread for the topic in the Dish sections of the forum.

Ooh, a cheap shot and an eye roll emoticon. Good job, sir. And besides, the moment someone starts a post in another area, they get immediately directed to another thread by someone else already started. So, therefore you can't talk about it in both places.

Since we're discussing here:

TWC Cable in NYC has already been confirmed to drop Current from it's lineup this hour.
