Slowly milking tech info ...

The ID:058 is a satellite set-top box incorporating Sling place shifting technology
designed to operate as a server in the whole home DVR system.
The ID:058 has a RF4CE 2.4GHz Synkro solution to interface to a remote control ,
a Bluetooth Class 2 transceiver for supported accessories, and
an 802.11a/b/g/n Wi-Fi transceiver for connection to the customer’s internet wirelessly.

Inside it's looks as the same build off 813, but some components moved [RAM] ... so it is different PCB; PSU board is different;
I can't see Sling chip (is it same DaVinci as in 922 ?);
a drive was Seagate Pipeline HD 2000 GB during FCC test.

WiFi support both freqs: 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz.

I would find it interesting IF it does have built-in Sling... because I remember someone on this forum defiantly telling us that "built-in Sling was a failure" because the Hopper didn't have it.

Guessing this would mean it wasn't a failure after all.

Wouldn't that be nice?

That's definitely a cable box. It's even got a Cablecard slot.

"Belligerent and numerous."

Picking on me as usual ... Doesn't matter actually.

922 with embedded Sling still in that condition when too many customers found unsatisfied with it.
Will see if 913 will follow his predecessor's path ...

I don't see another fan in the 913 ... My grip with overheating 813's CPU is telling me 913 would be on same edge, as it has same CPU's heat-sink w/out own fan. Perhaps Broadcom made new release of main chip for the DVR with bigger top pad.

My thoughts, I had one and it was painful at times, SA has worked well with my Hopper. Perhaps to much in the same can for them at the time to deal with, the 922 that is.
Thank you and
Best of luck

Well... let's see...

An entire thread was started about the:

922 sling "fiasco"

But the gem of the thread was the declarative statement that:

"Doesn't matter how we dissect, but the fact is embedded Sling will not be back anymore."

You did say that... right? So... how do you back away from that kind of conclusion of "fact" if there is a Hopper coming at CES that will again have built-in Sling?

*I* conclude that my original thoughts were valid... there was no "fiasco" and it most certainly wasn't "fact" that it "will not be back anymore"...

[OFFTOPIC]

You are a Mod, but doing derailing the thread. How is that ?

Just to bickering me ? I would expect more intelligent approach.
Be smart enough to move all posts about embedded Sling fiasco to new dedicated thread.

more tuners?

Of course not. Dish will need newer switching technology or else each receiver will require two feeds. With DirecTV planning on reducing the amount of tuners in their "Genie" I doubt that Dish is considering making a Hopper with more tuners just yet. I personally prefer just having multiple Hoppers for redundancy.

On another note, I had a Sling Adapter spontaneously die on one of my Hoppers recently. I remember thinking at the time how glad I was that it wasn't built-in. Lot more hassle getting the entire receiver replaced.

No kidding ? :) BTW, it has embedded Sling on add-on PCB between a MC and PSU. And no fan at designated spot. Another cost reduction vs overheating battle lost by customers. :(
