Samsung has announced some new Smart TVs with RVU and operability with DIRECTV receivers.

CES 2013: Samsung Announces Smart TVs

“We applaud Samsung for their efforts in developing their RVU TV and set-top box solutions,” Romulo Pontual, executive vice president and CTO for DIRECTV, said in a statement. “Their support of the RVU initiative has been instrumental in the success of this innovative technology. Our mutual customers will be delighted to get the full DIRECTV experience on their Samsung TVs without the need for a separate set-top box in that room.”

Underline added for emphasis. :)

Since it costs 2.4¢ to produce a penny, my 2¢ worth is really 4.8¢ worth.  That 4.8¢ is my own and not the 4.8¢ of DIRECTV, Dish, or anyone else for that matter.

Heck, I'm still waiting for my 2012 Samsung Smart TV to be supported by DIRECTV for RVU (UN40EH5300).

See post My Setup for configuration info.

Another key quote from the press release:

Samsung said it was working to complete development of the DIRECTV HR44-200 “Genie” server, which will be launching in 2013.

Those who are at CES, might want to check out booth #12006 in the Central Hall.

Peace,
Tom

Why is that?

Stuart said that the HR44 may be for that market. However I personally think he was trying to get us to stop being interested in it :)

I actually find it interesting that we still only have one manufacturer for the 34, but two in the works for the 44.

The only model specifically mentioned in the release is the F8000... Anyone know of a full list of Samsung and/or Sony models that will come with RVU? Also, since I've read that a lot of you with 2012 model that are "RVU capable" but not yet "RVU enabled," any indication of the 2013 models running RVU right out of the box?

Jason,
From the article "The technology is based on a protocol known as RVU and is designed to work in harmony with RVU client functionality in Samsung’s 2013 line of Smart Televisions."

Samsung's stating there that the full-line of 2013 Smart Televisions will have the RVU client.

Now that Sony is also in the game, I bet things move a bunch quicker for all concerned. Kudos to whomever got Sony into the production line.

Of interest perhaps only to linguists, but the folks developing this technology all seem to pronounce it "R-View"....

This is tremendous for RVU. RVU needed support from more than one TV maker. now it might get some more legs with the FCC? Who knows.

Peace,
Tom

Too bad LG also didn't announce something since they are also RVU Alliance contributors.

See post My Setup for configuration info.

Correct, RVU seems to be the name, not an acronym.

My UN60ES8000 (2012 model) is RVU enabled.

I believe all of the ES8000's are RVU enabled.

Samsung's stating there that the full-line of 2013 Smart Televisions will have the RVU client.

As an attorney, I noticed that your quote from Samsung doesn't say "in Samsung's 2013 FULL line..." it just says "in Samsung's 2013 line." While your statement that RVU might be on all of the models might be true, that statement from Samsung doesn't confirm that it's necessarily the case.
