Does anyone think Dish might be getting MLB Extra Innings for the 2013 season? I'm hoping they do but I think the chances of them getting it are very slim.

Not this year. However, this is the final year of the 7 year deal (2007-2013) that D* and inDemand are part of. Perhaps E* will join in on the next one.

MLBTV.com is cheaper and carries all the games. Just use a roku box or something similar, or hook your laptop to a TV. Probably a better picture from what I recall from a few years back when DISH carried EI and you can get either team's broadcasts (and radio overlays when they get them to work).

Ya even if Dish got it I would still use it through Roku and/or my computer.

DirecTV does not use inDemand for MLB. There EI is different than what is on the other providers. They simply just give you the RSN feed that they already carry, that is why DirecTVs EI has more games in HD and more Dual Live Feeds than inDemand.

Any contract that DirecTV has with MLB has nothing to do with whether or not Dish can carry EI.

On a side note. EI and MLB.TV maybe merging next year anyway, at least through DirecTV. There are rumors that MLB.TV through DirecTV will get you both MLB.TV and EI.

Here are the inDemand providers. DirecTV is not one of them.

I don't get what this has to do with Dish?

Many Cable companys carry MLB EI.

If memory serves me correctly (circa April 2007):

A 700 million, seven-year agreement (2007 thru 2013) was reached with MLB, Direct TV and InDemand.

At that time:

Dish couldn't just get the package (EI) for X dollars (from MLB). They also HAD to buy a stake in the MLB Channel.

Dish didn't want the latter (partial ownership in the MLB Channel), so they couldn't get the former (MLB EI) by extension."

Dish gave up on MLB's demands.

It is true that DirecTV and MLB have an agreement for x number of dollars to carry EI (independently of inDemand EI). It is true that MLB wants so much money to carry EI or EI inDemand. It is true that MLB was requiring providers to have EI in order to have the MLB channel, but that is no longer the case.

Dish's ability to carry EI has nothing to do with DirecTV; it simply has to do with Dish not wanting to pay $x to carry this package. They could carry it if they want to.

Once the contract runs out with inDemand and DirecTV, yes a different contract could be worked out that cost less money. I doubt that will happen though. If anything, it will cost more money and include more features, such as combing both EI and MLB.TV, or making tier packages.

Jut to be clear for those not familiar with DirecTVs EI.

Again, DirecTV does not use inDemand for baseball; they have their own out of market package. Other providers use inDemand.

For example, if you have TWC and you get EI through TWC you are actually just watching EI through inDemand, which is the same EI you get with other cable companies, FiOS, and U-Verse. If you have DirecTV you get EI through DirecTVs own EI package. It is a different EI package. With DirecTV you get both feeds from both teams and every single game is in HD. inDemand only has some games in HD. For the same price, DirecTVs EI is much more of a bargain than inDemand's version.

What the heck does any of that info about Direct have to do with Dish and getting EI this year?

Nothing. Dish may or may not take part in a new MLB/EI deal in 2014. This is the last year of the previous deal that Dish is not part of. It was interesting to see the differences between D* and Demand's versions.

For what it's worth, a USA-based CSR mentioned that they are "working" on EI. That was awhile back though. Keep your fingers crossed?
