I just browsed into a 2005 magazine article mentioning that ABC News was about to begin producing live evening news shows for the western time zone, rather than rebroadcast the eastern/central time zone shows, and that it would be the first network to do so. Have the other broadcast networks followed suit?

I don't think ABC is still doing that.

The networks do update the shows if necessary (most typically, they only redo portions of the show, rather than producing a completely new broadcast).
