OK, currently have H23, R15 off legacy port of SWM8, whole home, and HR21,HR22, and HR23.
Going to get Genie, and replace one of the HR's. Want to keep the HR23, and R15 since it has most of our currently recorded programs (Have a 2 TB external hooked to it). TV (in kitchen) for R15 is 40 feet from receiver and uses a RG6 run. I know I could use RF converter, but 15 works fine.
My question is which of the other two HR's should I replace with the Genie?

Was offered Genie, install, convert non supported WH to supported, with SWM16 for $99.00, and $25.00 off bill for a year. Does that seem reasonable basd on what others are getting?

20+ year customer, and never ask for anything other than equipment upgrades or additional receivers every 3 or 4 years or so. Also have protection plan.

Thanks

HR21 or HR22 seem like your only options... HR21 is older, both are dog slow compared to most of the others... also, you might want to keep an eye on those guys as they are likeley to want to replace the R15 with an R16 (has SWM support)

I'd say that's a good deal. Since you already have Whole Home and replacing a current box, adding the Genie won't add to your monthly bill. So for you going with a two year contract, they essentially are giving you a Genie and $200 in the long run.

I'd drop the HR21 as well.

BAHitman,
I really wouldn't care if they changed it from a HR15 to a HR16 as long as it has a coax output. That is the big thing for that one.

R16 does. HR models don't but would be able to use a modulator.

Don't need to use a modulator if I keep the HR15, so that is what I will do.
Thanks to all.

Ordered it just now, make non supported WH supported, SWM16, LNB if necessary, installed, 25.00/mo off package bill for 1 year, 3.00 off WH bill for three months, replace HR21 with Genie. $99.00 plus tax, total $107.17. Install scheduled for next Tuesday.

If they do want to swap for an R16, you won't need one either. It still has the coax output. Only the HD models would need it.

I am just curious as to why you do not seem to want to use the RF modulator route?

you would have more flexibility as you could watch any show from any DVR if you got rid of the SD box and used a modulator instead.

And there's a modulator for sale in the sale forum for cheap.

;)

I'm sure Directv can't wait to get their hands on your unit.

I think I have two of those somewhere, the stereo and non-stereo versions from years ago. They were good units back in the day, had a few channels piped through the house in the 70's with those filters to carve out some free space.

Why not keep all three HRs and the R15, and swap the H22? Especially since you're getting a SWM16.

Since there is RG6 run to the kitchen TV, why not put a C31 client there.
It's small and could be tucked away behind the TV.
Then there would be no need for a modulator.
Of course the TV would have to have an input the C31 can output.
DirecTV since '96, Waivers for ABC, CBS, NBC, & Fox, HR23-700 & HR24-500/AM21, using ethernet based MRV.

jdspencer,

That is one option I didn't think off. I just changed the order to include a c31 in place of the HR15. I hope it is as small as it seems to be and will hide behind the 20 inch TV or at a minimum I guess I could mount it under the counter if the remote works on RF. Cost me an extra $50.00 but I think it will be worth it.

Thanks for all the suggestions from the others, and especially yours
