When I setup at a new location in about a week I will see how it sets up.  I was careful putting it in the storage compartment.  I even take off the LNB and put it in a safer spot.

come to think of it, the dish is more fragile than the LNB.

What really surprised me was I was able to pull in my locals from New Orleans.  I have a 5 LNB dish at my house and I am about 170 miles away from home.

Here's a great thread containing all of the DirecTV spot beam images.

It was the tilt setting that was off so much.

I wonder if you're reading the scale incorrectly. If you're reading it wrong or the scale is offset, you're going to be fighting it every time you move significantly east or west.

I usually lock in the tilt according to dishpointer (where they call the parameter "Dish Skew") and mess with the other parameters as necessary.

Speaking of dishpointer, did you consult with dishpointer.com to see what it said about your azimuth, elevation and tilt? Make sure you choose either the DIRECTV SL3 or the DIRECTV 5 LNB dish (their parameters are the same).

Lastly, depending on where you live, the tilt parameter difference between the Phase III and the Slimline can be as much as 19 degrees so be certain that your receiver is set up for the appropriate dish.
