I have a 622 and would like to know if I can set a Hopper up to do the same thing? The 622 is in the living room TV(HDMI) and a cable goes through the wall to another room from the TV2 coax output(SD signal). Both TVs access recordings and can watch different channels.

Will the Hopper do that same config? In looking at the back of the Hopper photos, I'm not sure how it would be wired. Both TVs are HD and have HDMI inputs. I don't want to pay for a Joey if I don't need to.

The 622 only feeds the OTA antenna signal on a few random channels, so when the weather is really bad and satellite signal is lost(I really want to see weather alerts), I can't see the local channel.

Do I have to buy or can I rent ? Which would be more cost effective in the long run? I have never been on a contract and have been with Dish for 16 years. Are there any upgrade deals?

You must call for discuss your current deal with CSR who will see your account's flags for that.
Look at www.dishuser.org/hopper.php, you'l find diagrams, descriptions there.

To get independent viewing in both rooms you would need a Hopper and a Joey. The upside is you will get HD in the second room, whereas with the 622 you only get SD there. To get the OTA channels with an antenna you would need to purchase the OTA adapter for the Hopper. You would be looking at your bill going up by $10 a month with that setup. As for whether you have to buy or can do leased equipment, you would have to call and ask. If you can do leased and choose to go that route, you're looking at a 2 year contract.
