Is it possible to change the appearance of the guide on the Genie? My parents have one, and my dad hates it. He came over from Dish. Says he has a hard time reading the guide now.

No, unfortunately DirecTV doesn't give us options for appearance of the guide or any other menus.

Short answer is no. However, if you move the highlight to the far left (channel name) and hit 'Info', you will get a list of what is coming up on that channel.
There is no dark side of the moon really - as a matter of fact, it's all dark

They made the guide too dark and did not incorporate the easy list like TiVo has on the right side. So you have to do as stated above and then wait and wait and wait for the upcoming shows to populate. The other thing that is really stupid is that the area for displaying present and upcoming shows is not even half of the available screen area. The old Standard Definition guide and user interface was much better and more user friendly. It is a RECORDER we want to know what to record. DTV treats it like the paper TV Guide in the grocery store. How dumb is it to have to drill down and drill down to get to the to do list?
