About time. Nothing but a total waste of resources since it's inception. Regardless of whatever the amount of resources are. (not just badwidth, but resources of every kind.)

Hopefully the personnel involved in that garbage will be re-tasked to fixing/working on something that's acutally useful.

Well I get the HD programming for free because I'm a new sub and I did the auto pay, but that's just for 2 years. After that who knows? I won't pay $10 for HD programming, I don't think it's worth it, not that big a difference between a SD pic and a HD pic to warrant $10 a month.

I whole heartedly disagree. I can barely stand to watch anything in SD at this point.

Actually, from what I've seen, I would describe the Game Lounge demographic as more mature women without internet access. It was more popular at its inception back when apparently you could wager real funds on it. Even though it may not be your cup of tea there are fans of the programming out there and at least they will miss it.

my comments and opinions are my own and do not suggest endorsement by my employer

You are absolutely correct on the demos.

Glad to see game lounge go. I can't imagine why anyone would want it in this day and age.

What? He meant HD service free for 2 years, which he don't think he should be paying $10 a month for, even as a new customer, unless you're being sarcastic.

It wasn't $10, but I do think it was $6.

dpeters - if removing Game Lounge makes the code base smaller, it certainly won't hurt performance.

Plus, it'll stop the irritating pause if you happened to tune to a GL channel.

Next up - Please get rid of the "Active" channel!

Wow I wondered what was the fate of game lounge. Since the inception of the HDUI, I was wondering when will Game Lounge, apps and active follow suit with updated HD quality graphics.

I almost think that stuff is from NDS Media highway so they would have to update it, not DirecTV.

Wonder what will take its place?

Agree it won't hurt performance, but I'm not convinced it will help performance, other than the delay when tuning to the channel.

Not really anything to be gained on the customer end by doing so. So, I don't see why it matters.

I was being a bit sarcastic and meant the suggestion too.

Would avoid customer frustration. So it does matter, to some.

Ever press Active in error and then find you can't do anything with the box for 30 secs, sometimes longer.

There's pictures throughout dbstalk of folks that have opened up remotes to remove the button.

No. The DirecTV remote goes in a box and never again sees the light of day. I have come across Active a few times by accident and a press of the previous channel button takes me back immediately...not after 30 seconds in my own experience.

I forget that Active even exists. I did not program my remote for it. The button just tunes to a channel anyway, if I recall right.

However, Active does give the scoreboard and other popup capabilities, so pure removal of Active would actually cut down on capabilities.

But if you hit that darn button, the HR* is frozen in time for about a minute. Even on my HR24

For benchmark purposes anyone with different DVR's does it take longer on older ones? I'd be curious how many seconds it takes to load on various platforms.
HR21 through HR44.

Or maybe if the difference is tiny it could be they are just waiting for the loop of data to cycle through on that transponder to download the proper screen configuration, text and information. A carousel as you will.
