A number of our Boston locals were upgraded to HD last night. That was a good thing. Unfortunately, it screws up the timers. They look OK at first glance in your list of timers, but they don't connect to anything. They do not appear in your schedule or on the EPG. You will need to replace them with new ones.

Good advice regardless of market. If a local is updated from SD to HD you will need to check your timers!

You'll first have to update your favorites lists if they included the now updated locals.

Good point. I had to do both. Eleven locals in our area were upgraded to HD and those in my favorites were dropped as they replaced the SD channels.

This poses the question, if they do not carry both HD and SD locals, why do they need to carry both versions of other channels? Wouldn't dropping the duplicates allow them to carry more HD channels and perhaps add channels as well?

Western Arc needs the SD channels for non-HD receivers. Eastern Arc theoretically could have all the SD duplicates removed but there is no bandwidth shortage on Eastern Arc. (There are currently 11 vacant transponders on 61.5 and one empty on 72.7.)

Replacing all of the SD receivers to give Western Arc room for new channels is not a bad idea. But it is an expensive one.

Wow, 11 locals! Here in middle a nowhere Iowa we get 6 locals - two of those being PBS. We don't even get the local CW on Dish.

The Boston DMA got a huge boost. 2 PBS stations, WSBK and WLVI (the former major independents), 3 spanish stations and a couple of NH independents.
