"By contrast, ESPN gets $5.15 a month"

That by itself should be a 'premium' and not in every package. Give me a choice to save $5.15 please!

My fav show that I do not miss is PTI... Why other networks have not copied that show blows me away... PTI is ESPN's high rated show. I have a feeling Fox is going to take a shot at dethroning them.

Doesn't sound like enough content to launch a new sports channel to me. If I was D*, I would take a pass but I'm sure they won't.

Fox Sports 1 is presently Speed, which we already have. Much of the content will stay the same initially.
Here is a report from Autoweek which gives more of a motorsports slant to the news.

this story was in the wednesday wsj. its just means that fox is going to put all their sports eggs into one basket. meaning lots of soccer crappy nascar and mediocre college football to start. its gonna need much better offerings since right now only the inclusion of the fox soccer plus content makes this even remotely appealing

ESPN getting $5+ per month per sub is shear madness. Bad for the consumer, bad for the sat/cable provider, but good for ABC/Disney.

So glad c7/big east basketball is going to be the cornerstone of this new network. Espn is getting too pro sports oriented.

What they need to do is put on the ppv type matches on fox1-2 for the first 3-4 months. Then make it to where fox is the only ones that can show the replays so ESPN can't.

Ever since the leagues started their own networks, ESPN has placed more emphasis on college sports to fill the prime time programming not named Monday Night Football; Sunday, Tuesday, and Thursday Night Baseball during the summer; and the NBA games on Thursday night during the winter.

Now granted, Sportscenter and the talking head shows tend to focus more on the pros, but as far as the number of live games are concerned it is starting to favor colleges because of the volume of games available.

Their also going after Espn with the online aspect as well. When the network launches they also have an app that will broadcast live games. Of course though you need a participating provider.

Not if your a huge sports guy. I love college football and ESPN is where it's at. Bowl games and now the college football playoff. For me $5 a month is nothing. Now I do understand people like yourself not wanting to pay it. I don't think you should have to. Then again I shouldn't have to pay for all the Viacom channels like MTV and so on. The truth is we all subsidize each others channels and it sucks.

I hope Fox gets better with their college football coverage and play by play guys. When they had the BCS it was terrible. You could tell they were all NFL guys that had no idea about college. Plus Fox will never ever dethrone Gameday.

Yet we could add up all of those MTV channels and we are STILL not being in ESPN's range.

The massive difference is what sets people off

Supply and demand is one thing. Many would say this is closer to extortion.

Generalizing supply in demand here would be a disservice to the numerous other factors at work in such a topic.
