Generally with Dishonline (Dish anywhere)or an actual Slingbox you can watch anywhere on a computer or smartphone/tablet
In addition;

If you have the new Hopper, it can be watched on an external hard drive, and can be transferred to an Ipad.

If you have the first Hopper or a VIP receiver, it can be watched on an external hard drive.

You are transferring the program or movie, not making a copy. You can not transfer or copy to anything else.

I've made hundreds of DVDs of Dish/DirecTV/Cable/OTA recordings using a DVD recorder. The same can be done with a video capture card. But Sling, Dish Anywhere and transfer from the new Hopper are the easiest methods.

To "remove" them, as you say, just delete when you're done.
