While your logic makes sense, that is not what happens. New channels are automatically added so you know they exist. If you want to remove them, you can. While OWN HD appears to be the same number as OWN, the receiver sees them as two separate numbers; however, since OWN is not a new channel (just new in HD), it is not added automatically.
You can disagree with DirecTV's logic, but that is the way it has always been.
Well I disagree with DirecTV's logic. Content is king. If you favor a particular network (like OWN in this example), it should go HD in your list. A lot of others agreed with me last time I brought this up, and there were some that had concerns about DirecTV messing with their favorite lists. But then now some new infomercial channel just appears because it is new? Well to those people who said they don't want DirecTV messing with their favorite lists, I guess they do anyway. So might as well auto upgrade the feed to HD when a channel is added.
