My channel guide is showing that a lot of these games are on MLBEI now.  What I can't understand is that both Astros feeds are blacked out here (San Antonio DMA) even though we are in Astros territory and it's the Astros home broadcast.  What gives?  I expect to not get the other team's feed because of blackout rules, and when the Comcrap Houston feed wasn't on D* I knew the game would be unavailable... but now, when the channel guide shows both of the feeds?  What's up with that?  Or do I not understand the blackout rules (MLB's are the worst of all major sports, IMO) the way I think I do?

DirecTV has no contract with CSN Houston, so it can't show Astros games within the Astros home markets. It has the right to show the Astros feed out-of-market through the rights it gets from MLB as part of the MLBEI contract.

Ah, thanks.  I've long been wary of cable and satellite providers getting into the content business for this exact reason (among others).

Comcast wants to force you to switch to their cable in order to watch your team.  They gouge DirecTV in order to make DirecTV refuse to carry the channel, thus, making people in-market want to switch. They have been doing this for years.

Where is the Phillies feed tonight?  I thought once the NHL and NBA are done, every feed then becomes available.  I guess not.

How stupid.

the feed was on yesterday, i watched the phillies dodgers game last night but im not doing that today, the commentator really sucks, with all due respect , the guy seems old and he is very slow, and he is by his own.

It's just frustrating that they use these feeds so inconsistently when they obviously have them available.  Either use them every single day, or don't use them.

It helps because then people know the feeds just won't be available. Doing it inconsistently like this just pisses customers off. And I am paying good money for a consistent product.

I've never understood why D* allocates 29 "channels" to EI, when there is the potential for 30 feeds on any given day.

721 to 749 were all in operation yesterday, meaning one feed could not be covered.

And while I still love Vin Scully, it's hard to watch the first 3 innings as he simulcasts on radio. He's much better from the 4th inning on, as he can actually take a breath.

So not having them at all is better?

Just publishing what is available sounds better to me than shutting them off.

I don't understand your reasoning anyway. There is no set channel for a team so its not like you just record channel xyz anyway. What about when the phillies are on espn or Fox? Does that inconsistency piss customers off?

I live in MASN territory. From night to night you don't know if the orioles or nationals are going to be on MASN or MASN 2. People live with the "inconsistency."

I've yet to see a time when all 29 were in use. But I understand the wonder.

Since numbers are cheap, why not assign one to each team. If they have the feed, it is on the channel. Alphabetical or regional.

number of slots?

well the 600 may need to be reworked soon and 700's can get full as well.

1. They don't have to be in the 700s. There are lots of numbers. There are 4 digits. Nor do they have to be one for one with the SD channels.

2. There is room in the 700s now for 1 more feed.

As for the 600s. Yes. But they could save a lot of space by using sub channels.

can the older SD boxes do sub channels?

maybe they can use the 9XX range when the really boxes that need 9XX for locals are gone.

also since they have wgn america HD why is the HD not remaped to MLB EI?

Would seem to be a great thing to market:  Each pro sports team has its own dedicated channel -- could re-map pre/post game shows and the games.  (In those cases where home team feed is unavailable, put the away team's feed in there.)

This would make it easy for people to DVR games.

Primestar did this back in the '90s for all sports packages and it was awesome!  I don't know why D* won't do it.

They can't show pre/post shows out of market unless you subscribe to the sports pack.

They do show after hours on CBC's with NHL CI at least with the free trials.
