When coming to this site now I am getting redirected to the "NEWS" page.

My bookmark is supposed to be for the "forums" page, that is where I want to go.

Just tweak your URL to something like this http://www.dbstalk.com/index

DirecTV: Genie, H25, CCK, GenioGo, SWiM-16 & SWiM-8, DECA to Gigabit Switch with FiOS (75/35)
FiOS: Roamio Pro's (2), Roamio Plus, Mini's (4) with Ultimate HD (My Roamio Thoughts)

Marking as read also redirects to the NEWS page, I do NOT want to see that page.

Yeah, that seems to work as long as you are logged in...  I haven't tried it while being logged out.

Do you have more info on this?  I've marked all kinds of things as read today and not been redirected to the news page.

That IS my bookmark.

I just tested this myself just now...

I logged out... then typed "http://www.dbstalk.com/index" into my Firefox browser, and I went to the Forum page, not the News page.  I then clicked "Sign In" to login and after login it stayed on the Forum page.

What browser are you using?  And are you blocking any scripts or cookies?  It seems to me that it might be on your end, since I tried and cannot replicate this issue with going to DBSTalk always putting you on the News page.  It could be related to the problem you are having marking forums read and going to the News page because I don't have that problem either.  It sounds a lot like behavior I would expect if a cookie was being blocked OR a script was being blocked.

The correct link is without the .php ... the .php link was to the old page which no longer exists.

I think I got the coming to the site part working but the mark read still has the problem.

Here is the mark read URL (same URL on FireFox, Chrome and IE 8)

http://www.dbstalk.com/index.php?app=forums&module=forums&section=markasread&marktype=all&k=3138649e7647fbfabaf017d4ddc575eb

The BOLD shows why mark read is being redirected.

Simply removing .php helps stays on the forum section of the site instead of the main news page, with /index at the end of the web address so it should look like this: http://www.dbstalk.com/index

Directv Genie DVR HR44-700
Directv HD DVR HR24-500
Directv HD Receiver H24-200
Directv Wireless Mini Client C41W-100
Directv Standard SD Receiver D12-700
Directv Subscriber From 2009-?

The BOLD shows why mark read is being redirected.

It is one of the many functions on the site that works with a call to the index.php page ...

One thing to note on the http://www.dbstalk.com/index page (no .php) ... if you click the NEW label next to a forum that has new posts it will mark that forum read. There is a mark this forum read at the top of each forum as well. You can click the "Forums" link at the top of the page to get to the /index page at any time - then just go down the left side and clear the forums you don't want to read. I do that instead of using the "mark community read" link to make sure I have not marked read a post in a forum I don't want to miss.

Follow this pattern and you should not see the site homepage, which will include posts from the news forum. News is supposed to be our home and default page. Going home to the news page after marking community read makes sense when it is the home page of the forum.

We expect to tweak the home page over time ... perhaps it will be something more to your liking in the future. But if you really want to avoid it just mark each forum read on the /index page.

when doing a mark community read presently system then sends to whatever is set as default app in initdata/constants.php.

so if ip.content set as default app this will happen.

Hi...But their no loger is an initdata/constants.php   It is just constants.php in the root.  The idea is if you mark the forums read, you are done so it takes you back home.

I mentioned both as I have no idea how you set it.

constants is so much easier than just a few versons ago.

i use it to define the database furl marker (gets rid of the /_/slug and renaming admin directory.

just so much easier method now, add a line to constants and done.

much better then editing initdata.php eery time. you probably ran into that on the iptv site.

Yup...it is just this now in that file...Remove the file, FORUM becomes the home page.

I love the fact upgrades don't reset it too :)

especially when you had admin renamed and upgrade would mess w/ your mind :P

quite a few things constants can do, thereis list somewheres and they are adding to it as time goes.

so super useful.
