It only works in the home, except for possibly the Audience Network, licensing item.
DirecTV: Genie, H25, CCK, GenioGo, SWiM-16 & SWiM-8, DECA to Gigabit Switch with FiOS (75/35)
FiOS: Roamio Pro's (2), Roamio Plus, Mini's (4) with Ultimate HD (My Roamio Thoughts)

If you really want to watch live TV, get a Slingbox along with the Slingbox app.

I don't see DirecTV providing "truly" live TV outside the home in the near future, most likely due to contracts.

Slingbox is your best bet for Live TV outside the home. With the DTV app Live TV is very limited but there are 36 channels with available content (not live) on the app.

A good option is Filmon.tv. I don't know how they do it but they have live streaming locals in major cities, providing you live in the DMA. They also have an IPhone App.

Aereo is another option, provided they are available in your area
