Maybe they just have a contract with them somehow? I know I've done the Disney cruise line in the carribbean and they use DIRECTV as their TV source, they have Sunday Ticket in their sports lounge.

Ha ha, funny!

DirecTV piracy has been RAMPANT in the Bahamas...  I mean, to the point where it was just advertised on storefronts.

I don't know how it works now, as I haven't been in the Bahamas in 7 or so years, but it used to be everywhere - you'd see tin shacks with DirecTV dishes (seriously!)

My understanding is that, since the Bahamas are not under US jurisdiction, there's little DirecTV can do about it.

When was this? According to this article, DirecTV shut this down back in January. Http://tinyurl.com/bvw78lh. And the owners admitted they were doing this since 1995 and they knew it was illegal.

I have been on all of the Disney ships and have not seen any sign of Directv. It looks to be almost all Disney feeds ESPN, Disney Channel etc and a lot of content form a source on board. You do see a lot of DirectV dishs on St Thomas.

I've seen NFL ST on the ships and one time on Ariel Vision screen they were showing channel 101 for some reason for awhile during the day. I've also seen a lot of the DIRECTV local insert commercials on the 'cable' channels. Plus I've got a source that has said that Disney has a contract with DIRECTV for the resort hotels along with the cruise line for programming. Yea, except for CNN on the ships I think everything else is a Disney owned channel. At least on the Dream/Fantasy since they went to IPTV for distribution there's a nice VOD libary to pick from to help fill on the gaps.

Many residents of the Bahama's have residences here in South Florida and take their Florida based equipment to the islands all the time, even our local spot beam covers many of the islands quite well.

Was on the Fantasy last April did not see any Directv insert commercials. It was only the fourth trip for the Fantasy so that may have changed. They did have VOD.

directv latin america provides service to the carribean.

Then who does DirecTV Caribbean provide service too?

(I think the answer is that DirecTV Caribbean is a subsidiary of DirecTV Latin America).

DirecTV is not licensed to broadcast its signal in The Bahamas so trying to get directv services on the islands is not supposed to be done. Their was a company called Sattelite Bahamas there that recently got in trouble this year from DirecTV for distributing their domestic signals, and they have been doing so since 1995. Talk about being slow on the ball. http://www.thenassau...=36881&Itemid=2

I think it would be more accurate to say that DirecTV US can't legally broadcast in the Bahamas, but DirecTV Caribbean/Latin America can (and does).

And since both (Caribbean and Latin America) carry sports packages (including NFL ST, NBA LP and MLB EI), I would guess that is where the casino is getting their programming from (unless the TS was there earlier than January and before DirecTV blocked Satellite Bahamas from the US signal).

Is the Atlantis Casino receiving any HD programming?

If so then I don't see how that is possible from the DLA/Caribbean service in the Bahamas.

Islands further south around Puerto Rico (Dominican Republic, US and British Virgin Is., etc) sufficiently close to receive DLA's "Beam PR" (Network GLA-2). Or Islands even further south close enough to South America (Trinidad & Tobago, Aruba, Curacao, Barbados, etc.) to receive DLA's South American "Beam Sur" (Network GLA-1), may. But for all other areas of the Caribbean its pretty much only SD programming from DLA via the broad "Beam Oeste" (Network GLA-0) available throughout all South America and the Caribbean.

Casinos have a lot of :money:, if they want to work out a deal to pay for the right to use the US HD signal instead of the Latin America signal, I'm sure Directv would be willing to listen to them.

Yes, but would the FCC approve such a deal since it would violate DIRECTV's U.S. broadcast license to do that?

The disney land based hotels at least based on youtube video seem to have there own cable systeme with there own Disney World Intellistar.

cable bahamas has the US weather channel with a Intellistar as well (need to upload vidoes of it)

I think it is obvious. When faced with a choice between cable or DirecTV, even SD DirecTV is better than cable. :)
