Is there a way to order and get a rebate from Directv? Since I have maintenance contract with them?

You can always call DIRECTV and tell them what you want to do, and ask for billing credits to offset the cost. It's worked in the past.

Here it is:

http://www.solidsign...eceiver-(hr44)-

If you plan to ask for credits from DirecTV for ordering a receiver from a retail dealer, best to call 800-531-5000 and ask FIRST. In my experience it has never happened, but who knows. At best it will work..at worst you avoid a headache. In any case, remember this--even if you pay full price, the receiver is leased. It is not owned.

Good luck!

Now that there selling new leased HR44 Genie's, Directv should start selling older ones as owned boxes whoever wants to pay that enormous price.

Seriously?  I have an HR34 that I have performance issues with but I would have to give it up if I order an HR44?

Tried calling DirecTV to see if I could get credit if I purchased one of these.  They said no.

Was told the price through DirecTV was $99, but I could get it for no charge.  Said I could refuse if the model I did not want showed up.

Guess I will wait until they show up around where I live.

SolidSignal called me today to make sure I knew that the HR44 was not immediately available, and to see if I already had DirecTV service. I asked if they had any more specific information on availability, and was told they didn't. The rep also said that DirecTV had earlier told them to start selling the GenieGO/Nomad, only to hold it up for five months, so they weren't taking anything for granted.

got that same call on Monday, and an email with the same info.  I sure do miss the days when you could just go out and buy the receiver at a retail store.  (Best Buy, Circuit City, Wal-Mart, etc...)

So is this a limited order or the start of a national release for the HR44?

No, they are not released  nationwide yet.
