Right, it's encrypted so the only way to see things on the DVR is through DirecTV2PC for streaming on the home network, or GenieGo to download for offline viewing. But neither will let you do what you want. GenieGo will put it on a PC, but it still is protected and is removed after 30 days.

the Genie acts as a media server renderer. This is if you want to see your pics on your DirecTV connected TV via Media Share

being able to push and pull files would allow peeps to back up virtually eliminating storage space of dvds and vhs yes i said vhs some peeps still have old movies that they might catch on tbs or something and wanna save it.  On the upside netflix has most of us covered here but ... the genie doesnt work with netflix which means that archival of tv series is not accesible.  Which is another unfortnate why we are forced to ask.  Yes i realize that this would be against their interest to sale us customers current on demand movies.  I am more concerened about the old stuff in this aspect.  Some of these combine to make the next xbox an inline service to suplement the cable and satellite recievers.  Which is a novel idea but im going Sony on my next console for other reasons.  While I love my genie I am forced to yet again really think hard about doing MythTV.

Had hR44 installed this week (purchased from Weeknees).  Also have an hR24 in the same room.  From what i understand, neither the RC71 which came with the 44 nor the RC65rx can be programmed to work both DVRs.  Right now, have to use the RC71 to operate the HR44 and the RC65rx to  operate the HR24 - mighty inconvenient.  We use the HR44 to do all our recordings and the HR24 to watch TV.  Before the HR44, we had another HR24 in the same room so one remote controlled both.  Any solutions?

Thanks for the help.

The rc65 will operate both machines just fine. However, it will only operate the hr44 in ir mode. Rf mode has changed and any Hx4x must use a rc71 or newer to work in rf mode. Ir modes will stay the same, likely forever, across all generations. The one nice thing, you can actually operate the hr44 in rf and ir mode at the same time, so you can set the ir on the rc65 to work the hr44 and the rc71 to work it in rf also if you want rf for it. The rc71 can only operate one machine at a time.

Thanks for the quick answer - very happy that it is possible - expecially for an 88 yr old trying to simplify things!  Now if I can figure out to configure it, i will be in hog heaven.  Currently have my A/V receiver on AV1 and the HR24 on A/V2 - how do i get the HR44 on the first setting?  Thanks in advance for your help.

Well, assuming you have your HR24 set up to use a code other than 00001 the hr44 should be out of the box set to that 00001 code, all you should need to do is set the code for the DIRECTV slot to 00001 and it should work fine.
