I'm noticing more and more movies on HBO and other Premium channels are distorting on loud scenes with Dolby Digital. I'm using a HR21 with Optical Out to my Yamaha amp and the problem seems to be getting worse and worse. Anybody else hearing this?

I don't believe it's the amp or speakers. The amp is fine with Blu-Ray content, the speakers (Kef) too. Also the distortion/clipping seems to affect at least the front 3 channels (i'm not hearing it from the rears).

I wonder if its related to compression, causing the sound to clip?

Another thought. Perhaps its a bug with the Optical output vs HDMI ?

OK, well a quick google and it appears its an HBO/Cinemax problem. I heard the problem myself with Mr and Mrs Smith last night, where it was pretty bad !!
