It should be grounded to the same ground rod as your house.

If you install a second one you can get what is called a "ground loop" and it can cause waves / lines in the picture and or possible unwanted sounds from it.

Here is a comparison of the signal strength with my existing dish, and the newly installed one:

??? pretty tough to decide which way to adjust ???

I would not adjust anything, your signals are generally better on the new dish with the exception of those low evens on 103ca.  I wonder if there is an issue with the LNB, note this pattern:

TP  new   old

10   95      91

12   88      88

14   86      89

16   83      91

18   76      91

20   71      91

22   63      89

24   49      92

Old is about the same, new drops steadily as the frequency goes up

Could be LNB,,, the Dish and LNB were lying in the weeds for a long time,, right now I am only using one LNB feed,,,have not hooked to the others yet,,, I assumed if one out-put worked, they all would,,,, maybe the coax connectors on LNB are  "grubby"  ?????

I could move the LNB 5 to new setup,,,, going from the 3 to 5,,, would the aim still be ok for  99 101 103 ?

The only other thing,, there is a small tree to the right,,, of look angle,,, how far right depends on how far right the look angle is,,,, I was going to cut that tree down anyway,,, but it is pretty far to the right,,,

Switching from the 3 to the 5 would be fine, there is no difference in aim.  I would try a different output and see what it does, it is not a splitter but a multiswitch so something could fail on one output. The tree could be a possibility but it would have to be fairly close as we are only talking 2 degrees off center of the dish

So,, given the numbers I posted,,,,, swapping to the LNB 5 ,,,,,,,,should bring the weak numbers on 103 up,,,,,,,,,,,,and actually make all better,,,,,,,,,,, maybe,,,,

I need to add  the other jumpers to the SL3, anyway, so may do a little cleaning of, the connectors,,,,, worth a shot,,,,nothing to loose,,,,

Is there a chart or map that shows what channels use what transponders,, so I can see how they  look,,, like I said everything I watch is fine,, but have not had a rain test yet,,,,,

I saw another SL3  for 15 bucks,,,, different number than the SL3  I have,,, it is  a SL3 K4NR1-03, with 4 outputs,, mine is a SL3 PIG WNC ,,,,,, any real difference ?

At the bottom of the first post is a spread sheet titled TPN_Map_Domestic

Cleaning the connectors might help a bunch.

If you use the Slimline 5 you must have another 16 degrees of clearance from the trees to the right side of the Dish. If not you might get a 771 error from not getting a signal on the 119.

At the bottom of this first post in this thread it says attached files.

Use the one that says Domestic in the name.

It appears I failed to post the link in the first response about this.

well, played around with dish,,,, of course I had to mess with the aim,,, got some weaker channels better,,,,,, but then then some strong channels got weaker,,,,, pretty easy to really tie things in a knot,,, especially for a guy like me who can not leave things alone,,,,,,,,,may start from beginning, like a new install,,,, I set the tilt angle a 79, and never moved that,, may try that,,, like I  said, can't leave things alone,,,, I miss the signal audio tone on H21 receiver,,, in the old round dish days,, that was a nice helper The H20 has it, may use it for test outing  #3,,,

Did you watch the video and pay attention to the "Dithering Process" ? It is very important for those last moves.

I used my TV screen and turned the dither screw to the left, counter clockwise, until my signal basically went to down to 80 on one of the good transponders. Then you slowly rotate it back clockwise thru the high reading and then kept going until you get 80 again.

While you are doing this you are counting the numbers on the screw to see exactly how far you turned it. Then you rotate it counter clockwise  back half way and tighten it down. Do this in the side to side and elevation directions.

I never messed with the tilt / skew.

yup, sorta' did that fine tune process,, but I got all hung up on those weak numbers that may not even matter,,,,, looking for that perfect score  100-s across the board,,,,,,

I am thinking the LNB-3 is working fine,,,,or as well as the LNB-5 on old dish,,,,, ordered the grounding blocks, will bond to house ground, and will aim again when I install that,, or will aim several times before that,, this is a challenge now,,,,all other tinkering jobs will have to wait,,,

There are always some funky numbers.

Take a look here, post # 12,  and you will see my readings when I had a Slimline 5. Disregard the 110 and 119 readings for the 3.
