Chat downloads threats

Best Answer Brandon Wedgeworth , 05 June 2013 - 06:42 PM

The only install that it could have blocked would have been if the browser was trying to download a new version of JAVA. AddOnChat requires JAVA...unless you want to use the HTML5 version...but you lose some functionality. You can check your JAVA version here: http://java.com/en/d...etect=jre&try=1 . The newest version is Version 7 Update 21. If that's not what you have, you can get the newest version by going here: http://java.com/en/download/index.jsp . Be aware though, the newest version of JAVA is only 64 bit and won't run in 32 bit browsers. Go to the full post

New member: Clicked on Chat. AVG says that it removed threat, Firefox says it blocked a software install.

Is this safe?

There are a couple hundred people that use chat here on Friday and Saturday nights and I haven't heard of any issues like that. I just tried it and didn't have any warnings.

Opinions expressed by me are my own and do not necessarily reflect

I just tried it at work where I have never been to chat before and Firefox does ask if you want to run AddOnChat probably because it is a Java app.  I would say OK, I use it every Friday and so do many others

I wouldn't expect many to be around there most of the time. And welcome!

This was widely reported a month or two ago. False alarms.

I've never had a problem with chat on this board.
